Favorite easy Thanksgiving recipes? I was asked to bring a side dish for my family's meal and have this evening only to plan, shop, and cook. Easily-transportable please (no soups). Thanks fam!!
My leadership of a startup in California is very anti-COVID restrictions and has recently said that they want to force employees to come into the office, no exceptions, even though our County is still in the highest restriction level. None of our roles require anyone to be in the office to complete their responsibilities. They also don't want to follow guidelines (like masks), but I think they'd be willing to somewhat if they were forcing people in. Anyone have advice here and how you are supporting leadership through this? I don't know of any fines related to bucking the restrictions. I do know about the mandatory reporting implemented by Gov. Newsom, but that's extent of it. How are you handling this at your company?
I’m almost a second year attorney in family law. I have made brief appearances in hearings, but nothing really major. I am an outgoing person and have no problem working out issues and speaking to the partner and senior associates. However, I have so much anxiety about court, particularly long arguments. I am extremely nervous and feel like I’m going to freeze. I do believe I’m capable, but I feel like I have a long way to go. Any tips? I’m doing great in all other areas more or less.
Do partners realize that by engaging and building a relationship with their associates allows for greater ease when dealing with workflow issues? I’m at a small boutique. I am new. I also try and learn things on my own and follow up with my partner when I need guidance. Most people I read here have extreme anxiety and depression revolving around communications with their partners.
Why don’t law firms offer reviews of your bosses. It shouldn’t be a one way street where there’s appraisals of employees. I feel that would hold them accountable to certain standards.
The requirement to send a daily timesheet report to thpartners in my practice group has forced me to actually sit down and get stuff done. Good for business! (Spent the first days mostly freaking out)
They say the reward for good work is more work. Well, it’s beginning to feel like a punishment because I’m drowning. But I have no idea how to turn down assignments, and I definitely feel like I need to because the quality of my work is declining as I become spread thin. Thoughts on how I can go about managing my workload without ruffling feathers?
If it's so elite how come Susman is so low on Vault? There are other small outfits (e.g. Boies, Quinn, Wachtell) that are highly ranked
Starting a new job with a Big Law in June but very worried that they may not confirm me given the economic downturn & virus ...
Small firm 17 attorneys total. All working from home. Partners asked associates to send a screen shot of billables at end of each day. Does this indicate anything?
I’m a junior associate looking to change law firms. Any suggestions for reputable head hunters that I should contact?
Had a stressful day. Made a rookie mistake and just feeling worn down. Billed 8 hours and still going. What do you on the bad days?
If you told me at the beginning of the year that I’d spend a large portion of the year working and even attending hearings without pants on, I would have laughed at the absurdity. But here we are...
Thoughts on getting second professional degree while at big law? Want one because I’m a lifelong learned, but it would send the wrong message.
Our intern keeps complaining about the bar being online. I’m not unsympathetic to the situation but she’s getting an extra three months to study and it’s half it’s normal length. We all had to take it and it was stressful for all of us. I’m very over discussing it with her but she brings it up every day.
When a post says “more below” or “continued” do you generally wait for OP to comment on their own post, or are you such a know it all that you try to beat them to the punch and answer prematurely?
Phone interview with Amazon coming up for Senior Cloud Architect in their Professional Services group. Anyone have any experience and willing to share their thoughts?
My parents are moving to the area soon and looking for homes that are within a decent drive from Fort Belvoir. What are some good neighborhoods around there? They're currently looking at Mt. Vernon, Burke, Fairfax Station, Belle Haven, and some places near Alexandria. For reference, no kids are in school so good school factor doesn't matter. Price range: $900k-1.3mil.
How are people shown the backdoor? Is it when you have check ins after your review? Is one check in after a review too many?
Help! I was fired in November. Spent 10 years on the agency side, and then failed at a few bad client roles. I’ve applied to jobs, but can’t get an interview. How do I get myself out of this mess?
Starting a job as a Senior Accountant next month. How long should I be looking to become manager? Salary increases? Just curious after a conversation I’ve had with a recruiter. I don’t know much about industry promotions.
My good friend - a brilliant creative - is getting crushed by the egos of her CD bosses (also women) and essentially becoming their secretary. Any tips for her on how to handle it, besides a new job?
Account Managers. I’m genuinely curious, what’s your opinion of the creative department? Ultimate collaborator? Constant roadblock? Let’s break down any misunderstanding and prejudice towards each other.
Sitting in an airport beginning at least a month away from my family, and the manager has made it clear I can’t fly out my wife on the weekends because we’ll be working. Why do we do this again?
Is it hard to transition out of tax into a marketing role? I am mid level in my career and want to get out of tax.

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!
