In my experience titles in tech industry Vs consulting don’t always correlate. My advice would be not to get too hung up on titles and consider which role you would prefer to spend the next few years of your life doing!

You can always boomerang to consulting with a good network. Why be an SM in a practice you don’t enjoy? Try something new and get paid more, if you don’t like it, there will be a job waiting for you @ Accenture!
Very surprised D14. Sorry to hear that. I would say that is not a typical situation.
Eh. If you’re going to make SM, may as well stay and get the title and pay bump, then use that as your new baseline for the job hunt.
Dream land. No one at Amazon cares if you were an SM. I was for context.
I recently moved to Amazon. Gave up SM promotion for it and here is my experience
Wlb - I can see why it gets a bad reputation because most folks moved from industry. If ur coming consulting you will be fine
Culture - in some ways better than D where take that DEI more seriously, people are respectful towards each other and the flat structure is real. With that said I’m sure there are cultural differences by team so make sure you like your boss and team
Pay - I got a 50% bump and I wouldn’t make that till beyond first year PPMD
Title - it makes zero difference outside of consulting since tech hires purely based on number of heads of experience. I came in at the same level as a more experienced SM who left The firm around the same time
DM if u have additional questions
This is so helpful. Almost similar bkg.
Absolutely wait for the title bump. Another opp will come along that you like even better and you will be able to use the SM title as leverage for an even higher pay bump even if the title is lower. Hold out for something that you know you will enjoy better.
So I really have no idea which option would be right for you, but that being said, Amazon or any other tech company will probably hire you down as a M even if you apply next year as a SM right? We do that here. SCs at lesser consulting firms are hired as Cs. Even SMs at other firms could probably be hired as a SC instead of an M
If that logic is true, then I would make the jump.
I just feel like most companies hire down regardless of how long you have been in the position.

No one outside consulting really understands the nuances of M vs Sm at Deloitte EY etc.
If they’re paying more now and this is what you want to do - go for it.
100% is never 100% till it happens.
Will you have sales metrics at AMZN will you have utilization targets?
Chief
Your tc will be higher at Deloitte as SM - unless AMZN hits 5k / share in the next 5 years.
Waiting for title bumps is a vicious circle. SM is categorically the worst time to try to leave. Any place you apply to will take you down a level. So then you're an SM3 by the time you can exit at your level... Then it's back to.. I'm definitely on track for partner is it worth it to leave?
Hard disagree. It's not like SM1 is suddenly makes you a director. Sure exit ops at SM3 and above equate, but usually they knock you down a notch and make you prove your promotion again at the new firm. Needless to say it's all situational.

Golden rule is if you are happy and settled in your group don't leave unless the numbers are really large.
Wow your post is a Godsend. I'm going to be up next year, but currently evaluating AWS - word to word terrified about the pip, pto, work culture and not sure I'll stick around for 4 yrs to see the comp come thru.
What's ur motivation to leave ?
Is it wlb? - A isn't the answer ( I was told this by several folks who work there)
Is it pay? - compare leaving before 4 yrs with staying here another year
Is it the job - then go be happy
Culture - I doubt there's massive culture difference.
If you go there and hate it, there's not much you can do for atleast 1 yr.
If you stay here and still hate it, you can always keep trying for an exit that suits you.
Look out for yourself and only you can make this decision OP
Also your ability to perform at a familiar environment, 1st yr after promo vs new job, new environment, high performance culture.
What works for you?
If you've never had performance challenges in consulting and you've gone through some promotions, I think it's highly unlikely you'll have genuine ones at Amazon. However, office politics may still screw you. if you land with a bad manager who doesn't have the political capital to look out for his new hires you may get stuffed. That's just the reality and it's a risk I'm tracking. I'm just hoping I have enough political nous to navigate and fight back should it come to it. Surely if consulting teaches you anything it's to reframe the situation, build some alliances, influence and navigate - fingers x.

Most senior managers that I’ve seen exit have gone on to be directors or senior directors in industry... id probably wait, it’s only a few more months
Take the SM, give it a year at least then jump. You will be way more marketable than leaving as Manager and saying “but I was gonna get promoted”. Big 4 SM is solid.
You have literally nothing to gain by staying at Deloitte. Its not like D has the reputation of MBB. If you were at MBB, then Id say stay, but seeing that you are at D, go to Amazon and dont look back. Plus other industry orgs will value your Amazon experience, D experience not so much.
True that...
Do some research online. Most SMs from big 4 join amazon as managers. They go by levels and not really titles. Total comp varies greatly. Many Ms at amzn total comp is > new MDs at big 4. Partners and principals leave big 4 to go to amzn as directors.
Deloitte has the same up or out, pip, poor wlb culture...probably worse. Take the huge increase in base...enjoy the RSUs, and move on with your career. That gives hope to the rest of us.
Untrue, deloitte does not have up or out culture, many even do 5 years at SM
I've heard some tough stuff about Amazon -- I know that Deloitte can be tough especially for SMs, but I have a friend who just joined Amazon and they are RUNNING him, including a 3month probationary period that is absolute hell. I know Amazon has a great brand name, but the money doesn't seem worth the trade-off (to me) and I think your exit opps from Amazon and Deloitte are probably pretty similar.

What did your friend do? And how are they running him?
Has anyone asked Amazon for a few month delay in start for non visa-related reasons? ie, could I stay and grab the bump in level at Deloitte and then go to amazon a month later? If anyone has done this, what excuse did you use?
Yes I asked for a 2 month delay actually becauze of the holidays. Didn’t give them a reason though, just said this would be the date that will be the best for
Transition. No questions asked
So I already know what my comp will be at Deloitte when I level up as I’m close with the leaders. Amazons TC offer is about 20% more than TC with bonus potential at Deloitte. I don’t really know I would enjoy either role, and I’m not sure if TC at amazon is realized. How can they give you a total comp number at amazon if it’s RSU’s a s such? I guess I don’t totally understand that structure and if it’s guaranteed.
You need to ask your recruiter to explain the breakdown. In years 1 and 2 when RSU vesting is low, you get straight up cash bonus to compensate for it
Boomerang. Follow the money.
Very odd, there’s a 3 month onboarding
