Hey fishes,
Let’s say Brillio gave some joining bonus and if we are leaving within an year we need to pay it back.
So does it mean I need to put papers after one year or is that okay to put papers after 9 months, so serving 3 months notice makes it one year.
Please let me know if anyone had an idea about this.
Brillio

This question doesn’t make sense. I think you meant 401k or IRA. Both of which you could chose the Roth or traditional option. General wisdom says to get your employer match in your 401k (Roth version of available to you since you are young) then begin contributing to Roth IRA to max it out. Then go back to company 401k and contribute up to the max
I guess the other way to look at it is in case you have a big expense you need to cover, but if you’re in an apartment and don’t have a car (or at least not a luxury car) then I don’t see what that could be. Either way, it seems dumb to give up ~10% returns and to just let the money sit in a savings account when it’s almost as liquid in a brokerage account
Retirement accounts are a 2x2. Roth or Traditional for 401k (company) or IRA (individual). Roth vs Traditional is based on expected earnings in retirement. If will earn more, do Roth. If less, so Trad. 401k vs IRA is about choices. You have more options with an IRA, but a company may match contributions.
I’d personally go get my match, in Roth expecting to make more in retirement (or if I have a conversion ladder in mind, I’d do Trad). And if I’m maxing 401k, then do IRA, then do After Tax 401k > mega backdoor Roth (3rd type of 401k with a different treatment than Trad/Roth).
