It’s really hard to balance tbh. You can go the controller / CFO route, but you have to keep in mind that $400-500k household income with small children is not luxurious anymore. It’s upper middle class at best.

The scary thing is that you’re being serious. Reminds me of when in 2011 someone I was in college with said the poverty line was $100k
I’m in internal audit for an industry job. Make about 160k+ and actual hours worked are about 25-30/week. Although, I know exactly what I’m doing and the actual work is a joke after being a high performer is public accounting. Safe to say, I’ve cracked the code.
How many YOE of experience and which industry

This will sound funny but not really. Honestly, the only way to make boocooo bucks is by having alot of responsibility and in most cases no wlb. That is the truth. Of course this excludes the ever elusive winning the lotto or mass inheritance situations.
I like boocooo honestly 👌🏻
Corporate role where they value WFH and WLB. Hard to find out beforehand and you really won't know until you are there. And realistically, overstaffed departments have the best WLB and those only last as long as people are not paying attention, i.e. CFO.
Vanguard doesn’t have good wlb?

Great WLB; upward mobility is more difficult in the sense that you’re often forced to move diagonally and capped at a 7% comp increase for moving up one level and 14% if you happen to move up two. Comp isn’t great and partnership is a carrot dangle that gets you to stay another year. Benefits are unmatched which is what makes leaving hard. Have had offers of 30k more in cash but whose healthcare costs take the shine off of what looks like a great move.
i am vp finance, trying to push for cfo
life is pretty chill, i usually take off monday and half of friday
Why don't you just hire a nanny if you are both professionals? I know of someone who worked for a wealthy couple and earned a decent salary working as a nanny. It is something to consider. Maybe a family member who can babysit for you is another option.

(1) I don’t know if you understand how expensive that is; (2) We enjoy spending time with our children and the aim is not to make more money so we don’t have to be around them. We’re fortunate enough to have help because daycare can amount to a $3K a month payment around here.
Sorry for not following up sooner. I do realize how expensive daycare is. Many companies will allow you to work part-time but not all. If you are fortunate to have help from someone that you trust it could make sense for your wife to work part-time.
People here are saying that the controller role is what you want, but that’s only true in well-established, older companies.
If you’re a controller for a small to medium company, you’re still working your brain off to create and improve processes. As your company grows, you’ll either hire or automate the work and then it’s off to an easy paycheck.
