What is a reasonable monthly food budget for a family of 5 (with 3 young kids)? We have been spending ~$1600 per month, including restaurants/takeout and grocery store trips, but trying to assess whether that is reasonable.

I've been working as a host for an expensive restaurant for a year. Considering how much a dish costs here, I don't understand why we can't be paid well instead of having to rely on tips to survive.

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. I'm working at a startup where I feel like I've spent as much time trying to deal with product issues vs working on roadmap items. I get this is bound to happen in a start up but is this common? I'm not sure what to do. It seems like no one really thought about the architecture or ux as much as they should have in my opinion. I need some advice.

How do you best support your students who do not speak English? I have four ELL’s in my 6th grade ELA class and they don’t receive push-in or pull-out Bilingual support during my class. How do private and charter schools compare to public schools when it comes to accepting and meeting the needs of special needs students? from what I hear, private and charter schools are not legally bound to meet the needs of special needs students.

I work in a self contained classroom. A parent of one of my kids wants to come and volunteer after learning all my staff quit. Can I allow her to do this? Admin has no idea and I'm not sure with FERPA laws.. advice, suggestions? What can I have her do if she can come?

My students come to my class first every morning and are really hard to settle. They continue to carry on whatever they were doing on the bus. It takes about 20 min to get them settled down and doing the warm up and the class is only 45 min. Any tips?

What IEP software/web service does your district use? My district has been converting from SEAS Achieve to SEAS Attain this year, but I’m curious about what else is out there.

I work with middle and high school students that have mild LD. Has an felt that they have to walk them through every step of every assignment?

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.

High school special class (self-contained) teachers: What do you use for planning? I’ve always been an inclusive teacher, so I followed the plan book of my co-teacher. I can’t even decide if I should go digital or paper-based let alone make a final decision! I’ll be teaching 9-11th grade math and 11th grade science. The 11th grade classes I can very much do whatever I (or the student) want/need…there isn’t a set curriculum
