A friend of mine didn't pass her last CPA exam (BEC 74) and now has to take both AUD and BEC in the next window or she'll also lose REG. Any advice I can give her on juggling this and busy season?

Quit and get the exam done. Big 4 will pick her up in no time after she passes the exams

Yes, agree, ask for the time off - 3 month sabbatical for CPA. This is pretty common. Do not let those tests expire because of busy season pressure - it will help you the rest of your career whereas missing one busy season is NOTHING in the grand scheme. Don’t let the partners pressure her into staying either!

Take that sabbatical!!

Adderal. Lots and lots of adderal. I took a different ADHD med, but I can’t say for certain it didn’t play a role in how I got through 4 exams in three months.

Adderral helped me as well... But I kinda had a lasting addiction I then had to deal with after. Wouldn't recommend if you can avoid it. Unless you like actually need it for your brain to concentrate.

When I told my counseling family leader and my engagement manager that I was taking AUD this busy season, they said “that’s going to be really hard, good luck”.

I was looking for, “thanks for the 8 weeks notice..we can adjust your schedule.”

I failed with a 71. I wish I would have just let my performance feedback suffer this cycle and spent more time on CPA.

I cant see them doing a PIP in busy season, if the reason you suck at work is because you’re choosing to study 5+ hours a day.

Your team sucks.

Talk to her coaches! I know we would make sure she had a lighter load to get it done.

Ughhhh that's so tough. I hate this exam. No advice, just here to commiserate. I had a friend get a 74 on the same exam 3 times. It's such a mind game.

Study all Christmas break(except Christmas Day) to take Audit the last day before she starts busy season. Then just review BEC throughout the week (an hour or two a day, then maybe on Sunday), and take it April 10th. Busy season should have slowed down by then to give her enough time to review BEC, maybe even taking a few days off once filed.

likesmart

If you can actually take anytime off after busy season before the window ends I would definitely take BEC first

like

She should take the winter break to review bec since she almost passed. She should take that first and then take 1-2 weeks to run through the mcq for aud. Honestly if she ask for a sabbatical now at this time, HR will probably deny it outright at such short notice (speaking out of personal experience and I wasn’t even in busy season at that time). But these two exams are definitely doable in the next window if she puts the effort towards them.

like

Ask for time off. The team will get by with or without her by replacing her or getting help elsewhere. Doesn’t need to be a whole vacation but some time is better than none.

like

She is wondering if she should give up but she is literally soo freaking close

2 weeks should be good enough study time

Perspective: monogamy is anti-human nature; in this era where each parent could raise a kid independently, marriage tends to be a shackle on many aspects of life. We live once, why does society expect us to live with 1 person for 60+ years? No wonder divorce rates are through the roof!

AITA: My friend keeps asking me for financial advice. I set up a budget for her and have her concrete advice. And I field all of her investing questions. But still, she continues to be reckless with her money. She’s 42, single (no kids), and making $100k+ and is still living check to check.

I don’t want to waste my breathe on helping her since nothing seems to be getting through to her. AITA?

Hi All,

Was just told to "grow our ESG/CSR" practice at a regional consulting firm, due to my recent grad certification in sustainable biz strategy. Wondering where I should focus us as a services industry for big impact: we have a large product innovation, digital engineering area, and know in the past we've had a lot of lip service to clients and only recorded ESG for their compliance.

Hoping to make a big difference and include CSR/Sust audits and projects beyond for our clients! Any tips?

How does everyone bill for family law matters? Do you always bill hourly or is there some flat fee, monthly or quarterly fee structure that could work, even in contested matters? I have cases that the clients end up spending $20-$40,000 on a contested divorce and this is really out of their budget. I feel that if my firm could charge a flat fee of $10-$15,000, it would still be beneficial from a client predictability and volume standpoint and would generate more referrals.

Feel like audit scheduling is always done on a knifes edge in that the timeline and staff schedules are enough so that if everyone works 60 hour weeks and no issues are identified then it can be filed on time. But even small things that increase the work can wildly throw off the schedule and cause hours to skyrocket for the staff on the job. No real point here, just ranting.
