A senior person offered to teach me more of the regulatory side because they think it would open better roles later, but it would mean stepping away from the patient-facing work I actually enjoy most. I know regulatory experience probably broadens my options, I just do not want to move away from the part of the job that keeps me interested. Would you choose the stronger long-term skill even if it makes the day-to-day less appealing?

As long as you're in the early stages of your career, yes. If you're lucky enough to be nearing retirement age, no. You won't be around long enough to get a lot of mileage out of it.

Do large law firms really recieve enough applications for a position that they cannot follow up when someone reaches out to check on thier application? I get that if you have to reach out, they probably weren't interested anyways, I'm just curious why there is a practice of just leaving applicants in the wind. And also, how does one go about finding out why they were rejected, if thier qualifications are "impressive"?

Why if you are on H1B is so much problematic for vendors looking for contractors ? Vendors keep on asking to join on W2 rather that Corp to Corp although for employees on H1B we cannot join on W2 due to immigration issues. Point being does it matter for end client , if the contractor is coming as W2 or not ?

Does anyone work in an area with lots of exterior environmental noise (traffic, concerts, trains, etc.) and have tips for not becoming overwhelmed and/or distracted by it? I’m finding that environmental noise has increased near my office now that tourism has picked back up in my city, and I’m struggling to block it out. I’ve tried earplugs but the noises tend to vibrate my office building so the earplugs don’t work well as an entire block.

I feel like my employer thinks I’m losing my shit.

I started traveling while working remote and fell in love with the mountains. I’m now applying to be a full time remote employee and fear they won’t approve it.

How do I pitch that I need to live elsewhere for my happiness and not near an office?

What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…
