Accenture, BCG, Deloitte & E&Y all signed up to be in the consortium for eliminating the gender pay gap. All the sudden I'm feeling the urge to switch firms!

@Help Wanting to work at a company that pays people equally for equal work makes someone a feminazi? 🙄 Judging by your profile name, you're a complete lost cause, so I won't waste any more breath on you, but maybe some day you'll open your eyes and see that women just want the same opportunities that you get without ever realizing it.

Thank goodness we had a man with a psychology minor in here to help mansplain this to us!

What evidence are you looking for? I'd start with Googling if you want specific examples. The reason these consortiums exist and why we need to have a women's equal pay day is because this is happening. And it's happening a lot.

like

No one on here is trying to make a living pointing out injustice. In fact, that's not a very lucrative career choice- especially for women who'd make only 77 cents on the dollar

like

@help if you are a campus hire you start out approx the same and go up from there. If you are an experienced hire the gap is totally there. I know bc my group compared. The men, same degrees, same client, same work load, were paid more. Also KPMG got sued bc of this so yea it exists

I challenge you to challenge your views and listen to this podcast. A female professor from Yale studied this issue. http://freakonomics.com/podcast/the-true-story-of-the-gender-pay-gap-a-new-freakonomics-radio-podcast/

like

Just read the transcript of that podcast. Not sure which side of this you're coming down on, but she's in agreement that there are gaps. Maybe not 23%, but the gaps exist and are so ingrained in our society that many people don't even realize it's an issue. The example of the orchestra is quite telling- when women think they have a chance to stand on their own merit, they apply for more opportunities - and they are more successful

But he wrote a paper about it! Of course he knows what he's talking about!

like

Whatever. Never going to happen. All of these firms are run by fat white guys. All private firms - they don't need to share a thing.

like

Hahahaha go ahead. Don't forget they are making up for lack of Female CEOs etc. Ours is!

like

There is definitely a gender gap and it needs to be fixed, but women are less likely to ask for a raise, negotiate their salary, or boast about their accomplishments. So it's not because they are not as qualified; they just don't follow through to equalize the gap.

like

You need to start splitting checks on dates

like

You're making it personal. Point is if it's about equality then you should be advocating for both. Otherwise seemingly you just want more money but it's not really about equality.

like

Woof someone really has issues with women. I bet you're a hoot on dates.

Ah, so you'd finally receive compensation for sex. Novel plan

@down so signing up for this pledge could prove there is no wage gap by gender in the consulting industry and it would be end of story

What's wrong with the Porn Argument?
When a Man works in Mining is okay but a Woman working in Pornography is not okay?
There's a problem with your Thinking and the way you Judge people and professions.

There's a reason during primitive times that men were out hunting for food and other necessities and women were in caves focused on family upbringing. With feminism things are changing, upsetting the laws of nature.

Weren't there plenty of studies recently highlighting that the pay gap is driven by men and women being predominant in differing industries. Not to mention the baby tax.

Meow And I bet you never get any

Happily married :) but thanks for trying!

Hi All,
I am feeling lost in job. So I’ve applied for Accounts payable they offered 40k. I said why not to gain some experience. I didn’t even bother negotiating which I regret.
Fast forward I noticed that I was eventually handed everyone’s workload (AR & imports & duty and check coworker work + AP) Spoke to them about pay increase based on workload. So they raised it to 55k.. but I still feel underpaid based on the amt of work I do. I don’t know what my title or what to put on resume..

Hi Everyone,
I need your views and suggestions. I have two doubts:
1. Is it fair to leave an organisation (big brand) after a year as the environment is real toxic and there’s no career growth as well in terms of good work.
2. If I have to make a switch do I really have to target big brands only or can try for medium and small size companies too.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
