Congrats on becoming an RN! You don’t need to go back to med-surg necessarily. Some hospitals hire new RNs into critical care, especially with your LPN experience. Apply and see what happens!
Thank you so much!!
I’m a Director of Critical Care and I do not take new grads in the ICU, but would consider a LPN to RN with your experience.
Thank you so much that gives me hope I appreciate the feedback!
You have awesome patient care experience and would do great in a hospital! You will get orientation with a preceptor. Since you know how to do the hands one care, you will get to integrate that with learning the RN only skills and leadership role of the RN. Go for it!
Thank you so much !!
I doubt that you will be hired into critical care ICU without any nursing experience as a brand new RN. However if in your state they have LPN working med surg and you have experience then I def think they would hire you! Where I lived in Colorado and where I am now in MN LPN's don't work in hospital. I think that is ridiculous personally. I do know they have started hiring brand new RN in labor and delivery and in ED
The only way you'll know is by applying. There are many hospitals that have residency / bridge programs for new grads as well. But definitely apply and see. Congratulations on becoming an RN.
I am submitting my resume after some weeks but it will be in by tonight. I will post updates!!
No. I am an LVN in Texas and have worked Tele and step down critical care. Unless you have not had real hospital experience then I might. I had lots of varied hosptial work from med surg, ortho, neuro, tele, and the step down ICU. I think a critical care would scoop you up. At least do telemetry to learn the drugs and heart rhythms.
Thanks a bunch!!
Congrats!!!
Find a hospital that is offering a nurse grad program and get into an ICU or Psych role. You've had enough MS. ICU would pull all your previous knowledge together, and your prior experience in the group home, nursing home, home health and geriatrics should have given you some incite into psych. Your past experience is what will support you in your new endeavors.
Blessings, in all you do in your up coming future and thank you for representing nurses during the past.

Thank you so much!!
It depends. As someone who was hired directly into the ED to start my career, I would love to do that. But our union has so much power, I simply couldn’t even if I wanted to. We do offer “RN-New Grad Residency” program, it gets about 800 applications for 8 spots annually.
I served as the ED Clinical Educator for a level one trauma center and we hired new grads with no previous experience. However, they went through a six month paid residency. As an LPN you have already completed your residency especially having vast experience. Do not allow nay sayers to dissuade you from going for what you want. That said, don’t allow your employer to take advantage of you. Go big or go home. ; )
Thank you I will!
apply now why would u wait ur definitely qualified for ICU
