Are you in consulting or industry? If you are in industry in a smaller city - then that is about what I was making in 2017.
I am also 43 (guy) MBA, PMP, 25 yoe (started working as a developer at 18) and over 10 cloud tech certs. MBA, PMP alone won’t get you anywhere now. You have to see where the demand is and what skills you have and the ones you need to get to hit that next level. I jumped into consulting 3 years ago and am now over $300k total comp.
You can do it too - consulting companies need people with experience to guide all the kids. DM me - happy to share more and help you break in.
K2 - yes, that is part of any job - consulting or industry. But it shouldn’t be the norm.
150 all in is not terrible tbh
She works in defense. Contracts attorney. Wants to move to in house counsel somewhere. Which is fine but she has to make a move soon! It’s been 4 years...
I’m at 135k base, 30-50% bonus at 27.
Where?! Sign me up!
If you think it's shitty, what can you do to make changes? Or are there other things that make this a good situation like WLB?
I only spend about $60k per year, so if I made what you did at a job I most ly liked, I'd be overall pretty happy.
I didn't hit $100k until I got my MBA at 30. I was miserable making $40k until I was 27. So yeah, I made a change
See below. Trying now.
That’s 90th percentile in the USA so yeah you’re doing pretty well
This should be posted in a "2 sentence horror stories" thread
Thanks all. This is fun, huh! Some context, went to Australia for MBA (American), so not widely recognized here in the US. Excellent education.
Moved from DC to Boston to So Cal, so that has limited me. Laid off twice here in So Cal due to shitty work and no real interest. Last 3 companies asked for W2 so that’s been sucky for salary negotiations.
Technically an associate director. I work in consulting at Optum. We use a consulting model but it feels like industry.
And, yes, WLB is amazing. Just very unhappy with salary.
So Optum is healthcare sector and looks like more practice management but client facing side. Depends which area of Optum but you maybe under paid by $20-30k or so
Numbers on this app are often inflated and not necessarily reflective of reality. I’m 38, I went to the Ivy’s, have an MBA and I make 150k base. It’s fine! Should I be making more? Yes. I most definitely should. Am I going to beat myself up about it? Definitely not. Live your life free of comparison. If you make enough to live the life you want then who cares?
Could I beat up young new punks? Yes.
Should I beat up young new punks? Probably not but I sure want to 😉
But you didn’t list the comp #?
It’s there now...
What’s your story? Where did you get your MBA? Did you take any career breaks?
See below...
Sounds like you’re either a bad negotiator...or you’re way too complacent...
What level are you at your firm?
Associate director but pretty much a PM to match Big 4.
