Being around talent early in your career is better on the long term than perks. You learn to have better skills and a network that will pay off.
I know many folks who have chosen money and comfort over talented coworkers and work quality, and today they’re way behind and stuck in this spiral of mediocrity.
But understand it doesn’t come off right in a conversation with recruiters.
I absolutely see the value in working among talented folks... especially in the right environment. It still shouldn’t substitute competitive perks/benefits. These are the kind of places that offer a salary below market value and all of this will only keep your talent around for so long.
I appreciate working among talented people but it does not substitute for the lack of any benefits/perks package.
I've heard things like government retirement package (mandatory in our market) and respectful team (because ppl are so rude these days that just a bit of respect has turned into a perk).
It is a perk. Hard to prove — but it’s a perk
In fairness, it worked on me here. But yeah, only because everything else worked too.
