AlixPartners enterprise performance improvement or A&M PEPI ? Which firm has a better culture and WLB ? What to expect at SVP/ manager level in terms of responsibilities and comp? How is mentoring and coaching at both the firms? Is there a hire and fire culture at either ?

Hey! SVP here.

I don’t know about A&M but can tell you about our culture. I’ve been at other consulting firms and here are the main differences vs. AP:

* senior staffing model - our teams look like diamonds with the widest spot at Director level, rather than pyramids (very very few analyst, few VPs)

* there is a pretty serious focus on retention, so generally I’d say policies are set up to make the job sustainable long term (I can get into these if you’d like)

* since we don’t have as much leverage as others, there is very little hierarchy. I’ve had cases where I’m working on a model / document next to my MD until late. This is not the kind of place where Senior team members don’t open their laptop / work on paper. Everyone pitches in.

* there is less focus on making pretty slides, balanced by an obsessive attitude toward measuring and capturing results (lots of understanding how and when our work hits financials, for example)

* very little emphasis on non-client work, during my time here I’ve felt it’s truly optional

* less time spent on “culture” stuff or after work events, I think this is a product of an older workforce with families at home

* responsibilities are not that different from what you’ll see elsewhere, except you’re less likely to be managing staff (I do every other project or so)

* WLB varies, I work in a busy industry group and average 55ish with a range of 20-90

* though the training options are not on par with what I’ve seen elsewhere, there’s a big effort to invest and improve them. I do get the feeling from everyone around me that they care about my development (lots of coaching and 1:1 help). It’s nice

* there is lots of content on comp in fishbowl, use the search bar. At SVP you should expect mid/high 200s to mid 300s total comp

Happy to answer any other specific questions you have. I’d say overall it’s a pretty great place to work, kind of a hidden gem. I’m really happy I joined.

Well summarized AP1. Would it be ok if I DM you?

Alixpartners is more established. No up or out. Hire experienced people. No bs, no millenial crap, just work, do well, get paid well. A&m is doing what alix did ten years ago, poach a lot of talent from various firms. Too early to tell if they will grow as planned

Have been here for almost 4 years and strongly agree with your comment.

Curious as well. Also - do folks know if AP’s enterprise perf improvement practice has similar sub-services like PEPI does? E.g. MAS, Supply Chain, ODD, CFO Services, etc.

We are organized by industry (e.g., retail, consumer products, TMT) and function area (e.g., ops, sourcing, revenue & growth).

like

Also interested.

Fair to say AP serves similar size clients (~$500m-$2b) as PEPI? Know if there’s a lean to certain industries or private/public companies? Thanks again.

Awesome- thanks!

Thank for the insight into AlixPartners! Any A&M fishes here to comment ?

C1 what PEPI line of business are you in ?

Any formal guidance from either AP or PEPI on travel expectations going forward? Guessing it will be client by client basis but didn’t know if folks within either firm had a gut sense of what they think travel will look at their firm post-covid.

I think every big firm is figuring that out right now. Pre-covid we were M-Th, but I keep hearing we’re trying to become a bit more flexible in how and where we meet clients.
