Am I in the wrong for quitting my job working at a small business cafe? I had only been working there since September 2024 and was started off with $12/hr weekly pay. A few months pass by, I had been told I'd learn to use the kitchen mixer soon. That hasn't happened since I was told in March and I've brought up the interest multiple occasions now. In addition to this, I've been bumped up to $13/hr (still weekly pay) and was promised $15/hr? Highly stressful job where you're stressed as is

I wouldn't say you're wrong for quitting a job that you don't feel you're being treated fairly at. I know how stressful the food industry is and don't blame you. Was there anyone else you could ask to teach you how to learn the mixer or was it genuinely too busy for anyone to teach you?

I've mentioned it to one of my coworkers who is the main baker. They had mentioned it to my boss who had said she'd teach me some stuff but, unfortunately, it has (and continues) to be too busy for me to be taught

Spent 2 months at a pizza place like that. I was going to learn the ovens and register, other stuff and then I’d be able to make more. After 2 months I did nothing besides dishes there for minimum wage. Applied to a grocery store making a couple of dollars more an hour and didn’t look back.

Yeah for situations like this, you just need to leave. So you did the right thing. Hopefully your new job will be more satisfying!

Mental Health, inherited or choice? I am finding myself struggling with processing that ADD, Depression, or Bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain vs. behavioral therapy. The best analogy given to me is you would treat diabetics with insulin so why not consider prescriptions to help mental health. 2020 has thrown more at me than I’m able to handle. Has anyone here noticed a significant improvement after a prescription to help psych issues?

For those of you in healthcare related account management, what is your healthcare background? I am clinical and getting ready to hire a higher level account manager. I am really biased toward people with clinical/in hospital experience because, quite frankly, healthcare is a different beast - lots of hand holding and change management. I don’t want to miss the right person because of my bias, so im wondering how many healthcare related AMs have healthcare/clinical experience… thanks in advance!

I’d to get a job in a small architecture firm or work for a developer to help build up my network. For the past 6 years I’ve taught high school architecture and engineering and done real estate on the side. I have an industrial design degree and tremendous construction and real estate sales knowledge. I also started architecture school but stupidly switched to industrial design. I don’t want to go back to school for architecture. Ultimately, I want to own my own company developing real estate.

To all the post-9/11 veterans, it’s a somber day that unites us all in the reason we fought. It’s easy to forget - especially with the younger generation having 9/11 be a history lesson rather than something they lived through. Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?

If I should negotiate, any tips?
