I’d lean towards the technical accounting manager role.
These days it feels like there’s no longer the opportunity to cruise at SM in a PA firm—partner, director, or bust.
What’s the makeup of the accounting department at the tech company?
Given your career goals, I’d take the technical accounting manager role—but it’s close.
With a lean accounting department and no direct reports, I’m thinking you’ll have a lot on your plate at first and could easily become overburdened.
The most important thing however, you’re finally getting that industry experience that most companies. With that in mind, this opportunity would be a short-term play for me (2 - 3 years).
By that point, you should know whether the company will be in position (and have the resources) to continue to build out the team. If not, you’d have enough experience to jump to another company in what hopefully would be a better job market.
I'm a lowly senior associate but isn't the answer going to depend entirely on what your long term goals are? Compensation aside, these seem like very different paths
Long term goal is to transition into industry, preferably a financial reporting role.
SM shouldn’t be looking at anything less than $200k base..
Depends on location
How many YOE do you have and what is your col? I’m in the same boat in MCOL 11 years in Audit and my offers have been around 250k including bonus.
wow I am in HCOL and I am looking at VP level that only pays just about 200K. Guess big banks don't pay that well...
