Art of the Deal - DJT
D2. i think the majority agreed
I used to read a lot when I was younger but got out of the habit. I bought a kindle paperwhite and downloaded Libby. You can check out books (and audiobooks) from your public library. I’m in the DC area so a lot of the libraries have reciprocity and I have a ton of books available to me, but it may be a little different depending on where you are.
This way, you can just return a book you don’t like and takes the risk out of spending $10-$30 on something you might not finish. It may be a way for you to explore different genres without risk.
I love Libby!
11/22/63 by Stephen King.
Might be too mainstream but here goes:
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
Both of these are solid! May not be the first ones you jump to depending on your interests but I’d keep them on radar
The Vanishing Half - Brit Bennett
Genre?
In all seriousness I am thoroughly enjoying How Innovation Works by Matt Ridley. The first 3/4s is written like a history book with themed chapters (energy, medicine, communications, etc) walking through dozens of innovation stories—small and large. The final quarter, which I haven’t finished, is more typical in the so-what/how do you implement it.
The Kite Runner
Anything by Haruki Murakami
Bad Blood
My recent favorites:
Ya Gaasi - Homeland
Exhalation - Ted Chiang
Vita Nostra - Dyachenkos
The Glass Hotel - Emily St John Mandel
The Nickel Boys - Colson Whitehead
i would also recommend almost anything by Brandon Sanderson
Anything by Neal Stephenson. Start with The Diamond Age.
Cryptonomicon!
Been reading a lot of science fiction from Octavia Butler- currently reading xenogenesis series. Good escape to another scary place! 😊

The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
Seriously. I read the first three volumes when I was traveling. Great books.
If you like fantasy and enjoyed watching/reading Game of Thrones, you’ll like The First Law set of books by Joe Abercrombie. There’s the original trilogy with 3 stand alone books in the same universe and then the first 2 books of the subsequent trilogy. Should keep you busy for a while.
Harry Potter & Socerers Stone (lightweight but excellent ), Homeland by RA Salvatore (Dark Elf trilogies), Mitch Rapp or Scott Harvath (Spy thrillers), any John Grisham.
What’s a great espionage book?

All the President’s Men
If you like Hard Sci-Fi, anything by Ian M. Banks. Favourites include Player of Games, Use of Weapons, Consider Phlebas, and Excession. Save Feersum Endjinn until you’ve read a few. It’s mind-blowing but a difficult read.
If you want a true reading experience, check out House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.
It's a bit difficult to get into but, if you give it a chance and follow the path, it's incredible and engrossing.
I tried it. But never finished because got too creeped out. Perfect for Halloween
Ride of a Lifetime by Robert Iger. Solid book with some great advice on how to succeed in your professional career.
As someone who reads a couple books a week to decompress from work, my main tip is to not worry about what you “should” be reading and pick up what sounds enjoyable to you in the moment. Not enjoying something after starting? Put it down and pick something else up. Some weeks I read nothing but terrible romance novels or spy thrillers, other weeks I’ll get caught up in a long classic or nonfiction work. Read what makes you happy! And look into Libby - free downloads of audio and kindle books from your library at your fingertips. If you do want a specific rec, I just started Temporary by Hillary Leichter and it’s excellent so far!
The “Master and Commander” series by Patrick O’Brian. (Best series of books that I’ve ever read.)
Cormac McCarthy will transport your mind into hithertofor unknown planes. For the uninitiated, All the Pretty Horses and the rest of the Border trilogy are good, or The Road. If you’ve ever read Faulkner or Steinbeck, I’d go straight for Blood Meridian, Outer Dark, and Child of God.
The Road is SO intense. I would literally look up from the book whilst commuting and whispered “Thank God this isn’t real”
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
