Any differences in being a partner at a tier 2 firm (BDO, GT, RSM) vs being a partner at a top 20 firm? In terms of prestige, clients, WLB, comp, etc.?

Well yeah… there’s a huge difference. I started off at a top 10 firm. My first tax return was a worm farm. You wouldn’t see this type of client at a tier 2 firm. Obviously not all firms that are below tier 2 firms will be full of work farm type clients. However, you can be sure they will be small business that covers pretty much any business even if they are super weird

Yeah. I didn’t know they existed. They definitely do. Google It lol 😂

Yes. BDO, gt, rsm, you will be more of a partner dealing with sales and such. A smaller firm you will be actively reviewing more like a senior manager/ director. You will also be paid less at a smaller firm.

Pay depends on the firm. Some small firms have great partner comp

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
