A new Sr. Manager recently joined my team, and for whatever reason thinks that my initiative (where I am the official lead), wants me to check in with her constantly about it, as she thinks it’s part of her overarching role.

How can I as a Senior Consultant communicate that I don’t report to her, without souring the relationship?

Dilemma… I left my old company 4 months ago. Today, they’ve reached out to me to ask me to come back at a higher role, Operations Manager. I would’ve jumped on this opportunity if they asked me before. However, this role would be hybrid (2x in office) and come along with more responsibilities and hours than my current WFH role which is very chill. The pay is only 15% more than I currently make. Any thoughts?

I have been at my job as an
accountant for about 7 months.
However, I have taken on some new
responsibilities after my coworker left
like onboarding new employees,
preparing new hire bags, and doing
damage claims position. I got a raise
of $5,000 within my first few months.
However, I was hired by a recruiter
and $70,000 -$75,000 was their salary
range for an accounting job. Now, my
responsibilities have increased
tremendously, and I should ask for a
raise. How do I ask and for how much?

Do any RA’s or PE’s on here sign and seal for their company? My firm is trying to bestow these responsibilities on us and I’m holding out for an increase in comp. This responsibility was not originally in my job description. Additionally I am the only one with my job title being required to do this. Everyone else that will be signing have a more senior role then me. Any feedback is appreciated.

I’m transferring over to the taxation division in my state AGs office. I have really limited tax experience, but I always have had some interest in tax policy and practice (even if tax law is for those who didn’t quite have the personality to be accountants 😜).

Being a proponent of continuing ed and looking to improve my future stock, would doing an online LLM program part time be worth it?

Is it possible for a law firm with one member in CA to be anything other than an LLP?

EDIT to provide context: we have several partners and one in CA. We are under the impression that we have to be an LLP under CA law. Our understanding is that this has undesirable tax ramifications.

My current billable hours target is 2100 and I am considering moving to a firm with 2000 minimum. Regardless of the compensation, would a 100 hour difference make some different or would it feel just the same?

Billing is about to drive me over the edge. I hate it. I love the law, generally like most aspects of my job, but the billing is awful. I feel super depressed and burnt out because of it. My bills are okay. I just don’t have 8 hours worth of work everyday/when I work for 7 hours on a substantive document I’m exhausted. I don’t know if I can keep this up. Any advice? My family and I have been looking to move to an island. My spouse works remote and can relocate at any time. My firm has an office on said island, but they don’t pay me enough to live there. I would have to ask for a raise and to be relocated. I love my firm and the Partners that I work for, but I’m thinking of applying to other places that offer a more livable salary for the location. Would you just talk to the Partners at your current firm or look elsewhere?
