OP - I am a B4 partner. I am seriously considering the switch as well. I am not too much worried about WLB or the sales/revenue targets but I want to do something different and just don’t want to walk into the sunset doing the same thing for next 15 years . How did you search and find something that’s suitable in terms of total comp?
Sorry for the delayed response. Used my B4 network and had some informal discussions, found an opening and ~3 weeks later had an offer ... B4 lateral took 17 interviews over 11 months 😂

But what is the grind you refer to here? I can’t imagine leadership position anywhere will be a 9-5 job. Folks need to enjoy the grind to pursue partnership anyway. Did you mean sales targets ?

Moved to a L7 Sr manager role. Not looking for justification but seeing if others had made the leap. The “grind” for me re consulting was the repetition of moving further away from the client to “administrivia”
I see that half the partners barely have skills to keep up and survive on shoulders of junior staff. If you want to create and innovate, grind is not what you should be doing it’s just administrative after some point outside of doing some PowerPoints :) I do think all places have good and not so exciting. I hope you found something more interesting and passionate that is unique to you .. some people want more from life outside of $$ alone ..

OP - Thats surprising. One of my Sr.Managers recently moved to Amazon in L8 role. Did you take a pay cut?
The 7 band is very very wide and overlaps a ton with 8.
Coming in at 8 is very rare as many division/ practice leads are 7s. Especially in a division like proserve, there’s very few 8s, and even if you pass the 8 loop there’s a preference to have you join at 7 with 8 comp to get you acclimated to Amazon culture and processes
