Any other only children out there having weird relationships with their parents? Feels like every time I call them I’m not doing enough with my life, yet neither of my parents worked in my industry. I dread communicating with them, my energy gets drained and I feel unsupported. Help!

Random: is anyone in the same mindset as me that everything has a black or white answer and grey is just created by people that don’t want to make tough decisions? It’s a debate I have going on with my wife and some other outside parties.

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??

I moved to Philly from Chicago burbs for my current job in 2017. Love working for this company. They believe in employee growth and put in their time effort and money behind their current employees. 2020 has been though, I still have my job but have never missed my family this much.
