No tech city will have low CoL. These tech firms drive up prices because they pay well.
Most of FAANG has offices in Chicago. Relatively low cost of living.
KMPG1 there is a huge difference between SF NYC or even DC and Denver/ Austin
They have operations in other non core cities. Boulder Austin Atlanta etc. curious about anyone who has gone to those locations
Haha Colorado’s resort towns are 2+ hours away from Boulder and Denver by car. Nobody in their right mind would take a job in Denver and look for a home in Aspen. Both Austin and Boulder (I’ve lived in both) are increasingly expensive, but still significantly more manageable than SF or NYC.
As for job opps, there seem to be tons of openings in both locations, but the “sexy” gigs are all still in the Bay Area.
KPMG 1 - Not the point. These are global firms with global presences. While the majority may be in HCOL, roles exist not in those locations.
SM1. Exactly. I was looking for someone’s experience in one of those offices
The roles outside of headquarters will mostly be in sales. As long as you're fine with that, Chicago has satellite offices for a lot of the big tech companies
Depends on type of role. For example, google in Ann Arbor and Los Angeles is mainly sales and engineering, whereas if you want to do literally anything else, you’d have to work in their SF offices. So most of the FANG satellite offices are very limited in functions which is why you may be forced to move to SF/NYC depending on what you want to do.
Google and aws are in dc.
