McKinsey & Company Any thoughts on BCG vs. McKinsey, particularly in Canada? Major differences in culture, WLB, industry reach and type of work? Are there actually noticeable differences in brand / exit ops and is that worth it for a comp difference? Coming in as an experienced hire.

I got a call from the Google recruiter about my L7 em interview Google She said I did overwhelmingly good on all interviews except one had mixed feedback on a system design. No surprise because it was not a good interview. The recruiter said i had a choice to go to hiring committee, give referrals they could call about my system design or take another system design interview. I’m not confident about the system design because of the bad experience I had with the previous interviewer. What should I do?

Here we go again
Which office? I have personally worked with the leader of the Toronto office and she is fantastic. It’s an overall great office with really strong MDPs
McK for sure
It’s harder in a virtual environment, but I found going through the process in person that BCG was a much better cultural fit for me (no brainer). For some they will fit better at McK. Probably harder to judge in these times.
I say this with a lot of jealousy, and with recent experience interviewing for a CXO role. The McKinsey brand is still superior to anyone else’s.
do you have both offers?
Yes to the both offers - trying to figure out what the best fit would be
I don't know about McK but I've worked at BCG's Toronto office and the culture is toxic. Obviously, this depends on who you work with but I saw multiple instances of it.
Also, I noticed that experienced hires from non MBB firms tend to leave within 2-3 years. It could be that each one of them were not a good fit but the firm also does not support and nurture experienced hires. There is a bias towards homegrown talent vs. Experienced hires and it shows in how you are treated and evaludated.
In terms of brand, McK still has a clear advantage.
Comp should be comparable.
This person clearly either sucked in role or never worked at BCG - as an EH myself at BCG. Very much untrue
It only comes down to culture and what you connect with. If you have spoken to enough people you know which firm you connect more with - just go with it
Everything else is pretty much balanced.
McKinseys is less diverse in Canada. Happy to share numbers on either firm, just DM me
