I use ETFs, and assuming that you're still a long way away from retirement, you can use leveraged ones (like SSO) or other higher risk ones.
Do a little reading on this... Your plan should have some materials. I'm assuming you're young, so you probably want higher risk and return. Individual stocks and actively managed funds are usually worse than getting a couple index fund etfs. The personal finance subreddit has a lot of info (much is opinions though)
