Wow. McKinsey, which has the biggest public sector presence of the MBB, really hasn't been doing too hot at all in the sector.
Its presence is tiny and it's gotten even smaller. Meanwhile it's bungling whatever opportunities it's getting.

Good for you OP.
RAM and SSD upgrade will make a world of difference if you're inclined to go that route
If your moms current laptop works fine but is just slow, look into upgrading the RAM. My wife has an old 2013 or so MacBook Pro. I bought $30 worth of RAM on Amazon to double the RAM. Made it extremely faster and now it works for her needs. Just a thought.
Bought my kids really, really reasonable HPs for remote schooling, one from target and one directly from HP. The price reflects limited memory because the assumption, I guess, is cloud storage - which makes sense as my kids are operating on google classroom. I think one was <$200 and the other was around $250 and they’re perfect for what you need.
That’s awesome, thanks!
I would suggest keep looking slick deals for laptop . I just bought one for $400 with 256 gb hard disk, 8 gb ram and ryzen 5 and it’s perfect for doing normal stuff
Will have decent deals on Black Friday. Can you wait that long?
Yeah for sure, a Christmas present would be good. Her current laptop works it’s just slow but she tolerates it.

Not sure your price range, but this isn’t that bad for price
Go all out and buy surface book 2. It’s a year older but it’s one of the best built windows laptop out there.
I don’t have the money to “go all out” but thanks
If she uses google suite for teaching, you can try looking at a chromebook. They are lot less expensive for a pretty good hardware compared to budget PCs.
Look hard at the chromebook category HP and Acer. Unless you need to work offline and need ms office, chromebook is great fit.
Spend however much money you can up front on a nice laptop. The $200 laptop will be crap in no time. I got a dell xps13 and it was the best decision I ever make. 13 inch laptops are lightweight, and the dell xps or hp spectre are quality machines. If you are going for a chrome book tho you can find some quality ones in the $250 range for sure. But full blown laptops are a risk for longer term use in that range.

Use slickdeals and set alerts for laptops under your budget. Or just check it frequently for high deal score. People vote on how good the deal is, and there are almost always a few dozen short comments for the best deals so you can learn more about why the deal is good or bad. At the moment, there are a few good options between 400 and 600.

The new Surface Go Laptop is less than 500 and amazing. I bought one for my dad and he loves it.
