Just barely dipped my toes in! Got a Shun Classic Nakiri paring knife last year and it's amazing. I want to buy more but the good ones are so extremely expensive. Any tips on where or when to buy them? Is there anywhere with good sales during the holidays?
This is such a loaded question, haha. I like knives and stones a lot. Can give you some recs depending on your price point, style, pref on stainless vs carbon, etc
No, haven't gotten into that at all. Maybe I'm afraid I'll get totally pulled down the slippery slope, as you aptly put it. Those are beautiful knives, but I'd be a little freaked out wielding one. I'd also be nuts storing it, I'd have to have a special drawer that no one else is allowed to open. I'd be like the guy in Spinal Tap talking about his guitar and telling someone "don't even look at it, you're looking at it too much."
I built myself a Japanese style maple knife rack… terrifying though if I had kids or pets

I love my Shun knives.
We have a set of global knives and love them!
I am very tactile and feeling and fit is important, so I have to hold the knife first which is why I opted for the global.

I prefer German knives but I have a few Japanese ones for specific usage
