I always want to pivot out to open a doggie daycare.... but so far no courage and no start money.
@SA1 Good for you! Let me know if you're ever hiring 🥹
One of my professors in my MACC program made it a point to bring in alumni that weren’t doing accounting anymore as their main profession. We spoke with restaurant owners, people that had ideas and started their own businesses, people who got their CFA and went into finance. I think generally his point was that accounting set you up to succeed in general business as well.
Wow, that is awesome! I, personally, don't really know that many people who have pivoted out so this would be so beneficial to get exposure to people who have and hear their story.
I went to data science and love it. It took a second masters but was worth it
Wow, good find! Thanks for sharing!

I know people who have done their own thing and are wildly successful and others where it didn’t pan out. I’ve taken a couple of risks that didn’t work out but I gained a lot of experience. While you are young and don’t have a lot of fixed costs take the risk.
D1, do you see yourself staying in accounting for the rest of your career? Like others, I'm having a hard time deciding between doing something more meaningful/I'm more passionate about vs. just accepting my job as a way to fund my life and nothing more. The thought of doing accounting for many more decades is daunting ngl.
Look up John Summit. He worked in big4 and is now a DJ lol
