Anyone ever go through 6+ grueling hours of amazing, positive interviews only to be told that you don’t have enough of one very specific type of experience that is clearly listed in your resume and could have been filtered out before proceeding? Before today me neither. I’m still in a bit of shock over the whole thing. The hiring manager said I’d be perfect and all the other interviews were just a formality. Apparently not!

Similar experiences. Had a couple times where interviews went great, I was a perfect fit, only to be told afterward that they were looking for more years’ experience for the role. You couldn’t have filtered me out from the get go if that was the case?

like

Same experience, though in my case they said they wanted someone who had been a manager for longer - something that we had talked about in literally every single interview, including the initial recruiter call. Thanks for wasting 10 hours of my life…

like

I think they do this when you are a fit but they hired someone else as a way to give feedback that’s ultimately more confusing than helpful.

like

Yeah like an internal promotion or something. Maybe one of the people under the role spoke up and wanted it.

I see so many job listings that are so freaking detailed and prescriptive that you’re like… the only person that can apparently ever possibly be able-minded and qualified enough to figure out this oh-so-precious gig is whoever just left it.

I did two hours of phone interviews and was then flown out of state to their location to spend an entire day interviewing. Met with the team. Passed background checks. The whole 9 yards. The hiring manager (who I would have reported to) even said I got the job and that it was just a matter of time before it became official. A week went by and no offer letter. Then another. She kept telling me to hold on, it was just a paperwork issue. She was pulling no punches. I had the job. So I told my landlord that I was going to have to break my lease. Told all of my friends I was moving. Still getting reassurances from the manger, but no offer letter or good explanation as to what was taking so long after a month. I finally took another job. Looked like it would have been a good gig, but I can't imagine working for anyone that screwed up.

like

Wow that is even worse. I’ve heard of that happening.

I had the EXACT experience. 6 interviews. Repeatedly tried to mention the specific experience to demonstrate my fit for the role, but nobody was interested to talk about it.

like

Any interviews longer than 4 hours should be time you can invoice agencies for when you don’t get the gig IF - and only if - the reason for not getting hired is something they should have screened from the beginning.

Bet we’d all get a lot more honest feedback…!

like

Omg I love this idea. That will be $600 please.

But seriously when I hire, I pick a few people who can do the job, or have the right experience. Then I meet with them, if I approve I send them to the PM or whoever needs to work with them but it’s all a vibe check and to weed out weirdos.

I’m 55 and work in a Creative services business that constantly has to submit our bids for work to ad agencies - so in essence we are Job interviewing every day. After 3 days of back and forth with one agency my producer had submitted 8 proposals for a -4K job- the normal cost is 9k. After several rounds we were told the job went to an offshore vendor who could do it cheaper. My advice is to you - get use to use to it! Do great work and brand yourself as an A- list creative where your reputation opens doors on your own terms.

That’s an excellent point. I always forget my own time has value.

How difficult would landing an entry-level position at A&M be for someone coming out of an FDD internship at either EY or RSM? I have an option for both next summer, and I am interested in A&M as a potential career move.

Hey guys. I have a technical interview with AlixPartners restructuring and turnaround team. This is for their summer intern position. I didn’t come from a restructuring background. Does anyone have an idea of what might get asked in the interview? Is it going to be very restructuring specific or some general accounting/ finance/ operational sides of topics.

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

Advice on pivoting into Sales from Accounting? I know I have the skills and it’s a better fit, personality-wise. I am not a super technical accountant, but my background is still a super strong skill set I bring to the table with me (the ability to process and translate the technical to layman’s terms, and the anticipation of client needs and wants). Are there Sales recruiters similar to those for Public Accounting? Do I go for Inside/Outside 1st? What are your recommendations and wisdom?

Hello!

I finished my final round(s) for a TAM position at
Google (GCP) last week and was told by my recruiter that my feedback was great and that I made a solid impression on the team and am "firmly in the running". I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.

Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.
