I haven’t worked at Amzn myself but have friends who switched from D and can tell that the frugal travel policies are very real. For example - Amzn will send you to India in coach.
I’d just be like nah, not going
I made the jump about a year ago. Personally I feel the work at Amazon is much more interesting and fulfilling. I am a PM for building new fulfillment centers. The people seem much more authentic and less fake than consultants, which I like, but Amazon does lack compelling culture. I haven’t noticed much change in my travel lifestyle from Deloitte but I don’t drink nor consider myself a big spender. Compensation was a huge step up coming from 1st year C to L5 about 92 to 140

D2- How does Amazon TC work? Do you only get paid base pay monthly? When do you get a sign on and RSU, when do you get paid? I got an offer for TC 175, but base is just 125k. I currently make 140k base so that’s a cut in monthly check
I have 3 friends that went to Amazon from MBB - 2 are headed back

M3 - that’s interesting. Im looking at very senior individual contributor roles at AWS and the total comp at the firm is still better than AWS, plus I’ve got all the perks of McK (first class travel, access to firm experts, CxO conversations every day, etc). The one downside for my current comp is that we cannot trade so many individual securities.
I’m actually doing the opposite. I previously received an offer from McKinsey and turned it down to go to Amazon. 4 months later here at Amazon, I found that I hate my role and the work I’m doing and now I’m likely jumping ship to go to McKinsey.
What type of roles to ex-consultants usually jump to in Amazon? Is there a specific type of experience they like to see?
