Was at big 4 then went to MBB and now at google. Moved to MBB for more interesting work and it was. At google, getting more money but I wouldn’t say the work is more interesting when compared to big 4.
Many more hours at MBB than at a big 4. However, the projects were much more interesting in terms of problems we were solving. And the work styles felt more collaborative and straight to the point rather than just polishing things up and making pretty slides which honestly felt like a big piece of my job on some projects at a big 4. I am in a non-engineering role at google and I have to say, while I appreciate the culture and the hours, the problem I am working on is not as exciting as what I worked on when I was at MBB, they’re more similar to what I used to work on at. Big 4
Went from FAANG to Big 4. From engineer to consultant. Ultimately, you grow and learn in different skillsets. At FAANG, you learn how to work with large scale systems and other engineering teams. The skillsets in project management and people management can be varied. Very easy to talk “engineerese”. In consulting, i focus a lot more on growing non technical skills for myself, and coaching other consultants on just enough technical skills. The projects I take also haven’t been heavy in coding, but rather architecture and strategy. There’s others like me, and we get this question a lot. We’ll all have different answers that drive this decision. I’d like to think I’m a better leader for having both experiences
Moved from FAANG to Kearney, much of what EY3 is accurate for me. I was not in engineering but in Ops and I just wanted a different challenge. FAANG prepared me incredibly well to under the small parts of consulting, very detail orientated. I feel it prepared me incredibly well to be a consultant and gave me leadership qualities and an ability to clearly get very specific details across. I would go back to FAANG if presented with the right opportunity, but feel my developed has been greatly improved having both experiences.
