Are there any good movies or novels that show skill development - like follow through? Self-management? Money management? I read a lot of self help books so I know a lot of the theory, and books peppered with examples help, but I feel like most 1 paragraph examples don’t five justice to how hard it may be to change a behavior.
What do you call it when you buy a bunch of self-help books and are slow to read them (feel like I don’t have time, don’t know where to start because I have so much to fix), have a thousand self-help to-dos like meditating, exercising, stretching, pursuing various hobbies and struggle to stay consistent, and then shame yourself for not doing all of the above…what do you call that. Asking for me.
People worrying today should read books on trading psychology! Not being patronizing- it will help you in the future, not just for investments but for doing better in life!
Best business-oriented, but novel-style books with good writing, style, & interesting characters? Not really self-help/advise focused, more of actual literature with business themes/plots. Any recs?
Recommendations for psychology books that cover a number of ‘high-level’ topics? I’d like to learn more about human behavior- why people make the decisions they do, why drives purchases, addictions, etc. -not looking for in-depth science heavy reaources
Any good book recommendations on psychology?
I’m depressed. Nothing unique about my depression - I’m in big law, my career defines me, when I’m not working I can’t find the will to get off the couch, I’m sad or I’m numb…I know I’m the only one that can make a change to my life…I’m on antidepressants. Just extremely unmotivated and paralyzed. Self-help books are not for me, but I am curious - has anyone tried a guided depression/anxiety journal? Any recommendations if so? Or, if you have experienced the same, what steps did you take?
Hi Account friends! It’s the start of a new year and I was hoping you all could share any book / newsletter / blog / course recommendations that help keep you up to snuff. Feeling a bit stale and like the last year has been a tactical grind. I want to brush up on modern thinking for our industry - the latest and greatest marketing books, strategy perspectives, creative self help, etc. to feel more alive as we start 2022. Comment your favs and THANK YOU in advance!
Ok fishbowl family - I need advice. Rising senior 1 here and realizing that I genuinely get no joy out of audit. I’m way too stressed and really do not care about accounting and have made it a life goal to never book a journal entry. I want to take the next year to figure out what my dream job is and go for it. Here’s what I like: I love talking to people, mentoring & teaching, organizing, learning. I literally loved everything in college- I was between majoring in accounting or psychology. 1/X
Feels like books in that niche *business self-help* genre are aimed at insecure overachievers like us. There are 500 and no one got time for that shit. What is a key takeaway from 1 you found helpful?
Any self-help books you ladies recommend/ have left an impact on you? Please share below 😊
Does anyone know of any business oriented, but novel/fictional books with interesting characters? Not looking for self-help, more of actual literature with business themes/plots.
I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.
Best self-help books on the market? I've been consistently unhappy lately. Something needs to change.
Anyone who has been able to find a solution for procrastination that actually worked? I’ve read a lot of self-help books (watched YouTube productivity videos) but the biggest barrier is I procrastinate the implementation of the advice I’ve received.
I'm a very logical guy who tends to respond better to semi-academic self help books than to therapy (although I do both). Anyone have any recommended reads on anxiety disorders including PTSD?
What's with the saturation of self help/ productivity books on social media (reddit, Instagram etc.) ? Not saying I don't mind reading them, but I see this quite a bit. Know a few people who consciously only read non fiction instead. Just thinking aloud over here. Would like to hear what you guys think ?
Anyone can recommend executive recruiter who can help me move to industry? I’m in B4 consulting ready to transition to industry.
MUSLIM SOCIAL CLUB. Would you join a Muslim Social Club to meet like minded individuals (e.g. progressive, career-oriented, ambitious, not religious extremist)? The club would be to develop platonic connections and not a singles club.
How to make a move on a coworker? I know he’s gay and out, we’ve spent time together professionally and get along really well. I want to invite him over but I’m nervous because we are at the same company.
Can anyone from APPLE refer me 😫
For people at McKinsey, can anyone tell me what Finalta is, and what is it that they do? I’ve looked at the descriptions online and I’m looking to know more of what the day to day is like. I would appreciate any insight.
Been getting into what feels like the first serious relationship in my life (23) and I've been learning about a lot of the issues my boi has faced in his life - I really care for him and he's the sweetest most affectionate guy but this all seems super scary like, for the past x years I've focused on figuring out my own life, how am I supposed to support someone else? I wanna make this work, is this something everyone goes through when they start committing to someone for the first time?

Do partners have better wlb than associates?
Guys, how are you? I'm looking for some help. I recently started working for a new company. I've been reaching out to managers, directors, seniors, and the Resource Manager since Day 1 in order to get placed on projects. When I get on a call today I find out that all of my coworkers who started with me have billable hours of at least 40 hours per week. Meanwhile, I have yet to reach that number of hours yet. So, what should I do now? I've literally done my part to get staffed in projects.
Unexpected perk of face masks: being able to lip sync freely to my music while walking.
Someone please come help us with our workload at ropes…! I like the firm but we have too much work… One noticeable perk is 45 dollar dinner stipend for any day with over 9 billable hours.
Opinions and any information regarding billable hours and quality of work life at Stockwell, Harris, Woolverton & Helphrey...anything info appreciated!
