Hey guys! Currently in WM ops at Morgan Stanley for the past 1 year dealing with alternative lending, I’m super underpaid with 3 years of experience which is very frustrating. (73k). Have been at Morgan for 1 year and looking to come over to JPM for an ideal pay bump, but would like to get into IB type roll. Any insight on what I should expect or how to go about applying? Maybe even getting referred? I have a deep knowledge of investments and always felt inclined to go down this route.

Do all FAANG companies offer a joining bonus?

Can I ask for a slight increase ($5K) in salary if I already signed an offer letter? Their highest threshold was $5K more than what the offer was. If so, how do I go about it?

Currently make base $250k plus 25% bonus and started Meta with 200k in stock. Also to note I’ve reached 5yrs so I have that 30d paid vacay coming up which I would lose if I took the google offer, if I got it. How honest are people when other companies ask for your comp?

Hi! I have been working in marketing and advertising for ~5 years and recently started exploring the freelance side of things. I started conversations with a small boutique studio about doing Facebook ads for them and they asked what my retainer fee would be to manage them. Since I’ve always worked for a company that was hired to do it I am not entirely sure what a freelance rate for that should be? I would love any insight. I’m certified through meta’s platform too if that matters.

I’ve spent 4 years in Big 4, with about half that time in FDD. I feel like Corp Dev is what I ultimately want, but am wondering if a stint in banking could be worth it. If I’m not interested in PE or other buyside alternatives, is the pit stop in IB worth it?
Mainly wonder if IB is a must have box to check, or if you can work your way up the ladder without.

Going to Wharton in the fall. Is it worth going MBB over returning to big 4 (sponsored)? Is this a common path?

Hello all, i have. A question regarding compensation for a lateral move. I just received a job offer for an UA position from a competing cyber insurance carrier for $70,000 + bonuses. This job will be based out of San Francisco. I currently make $30/hour for the same role in Chicago, after OT it’s about $60,000. Do you think it would be wise to accept the offer? Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. A friend is considering deferring an offer (stem PhD) for 1 year straight out of undergrad to work in NY, either in a research institution or a biotech. She does not have any real work experience outside of her lab (3 years) and an adjacent internship. Another factor is she is just generally feeling burnt out on school after the last few years.
To what extent did you find that a year or two of work impacts prospects coming out of PhD? How might a year off from school impact her PhD work itself?

At a M7 (or top 10), whatever floats your boat. Have successfully finished my qualifiers. I know my goal is industry and I’m starting dissertation proposal stuff now (will take around 1.5-2 years to complete), should I opt for a Master’s and start working now? Should I get the PhD? Let’s look at this from a strictly career perspective. My goal is to come back to consulting.
