If you’re white like me it’s so important to realize that we were raised in a society where institutionalized racism is normalized, and we were born with privilege. You can’t choose the color of your skin, but you can choose to put ego aside and reflect on why this isn’t happening to me, and be vocal about being anti-racist.

If you can...take a week to relax. Don’t send resumes. Don’t search for jobs. Enjoy the city. Get your head straight. And then hit it hard when you’re rest.

I’ve been though lay-offs a few times. In this business it’s hard not to. That said, although you don’t feel good now (understandably), get back up, dust yourself off and get back in the game. While you’re looking, get plenty of exercise (along with mood boosting endorphins) and take care of yourself. Treat looking for a job as your job—meaning get up every day by 7 and be at your desk by 9. Work from your library or local Starbucks to mix things up. But watch out for your stuff like your computer, they tend to go missing easily. Hang in there and good luck.
