What will the project dynamics be on a project staffed with 3mdps, a PL, and myself, a summer UG intern? Just got staffed and will be hearing more on Monday from the team, but it came across as an interesting staffing composition.
Have the feeling I'll be making quite a few slides as the only junior. Anyone staffed on a similar case composition?

You would probably be at least slightly happier getting out of ID.
Perhaps but I would be happy being out of law altogether
I just recently left an insurance defense firm after 6 years to go to a carrier as a claims analyst. The job was JD strongly preferred but everyone one my team (including management) are all attorneys. I’m really enjoying the new role- I get to evaluate liability and formulate strategy without dealing with the day to day BS of actually litigating cases. The best part though is no billable hours.
How’d you find your position?
But why JD advantage?
You’re thinking too much like a lawyer which is to say you’re arguing yourself out of your potential opportunities. Who cares if you’re specifically trained/qualified for something else? This isn’t like citing case law to prove a point. You don’t need to have specific experience in that exact thing you can put on your resume to prove you can do that job. Life as a lawyer trains you to be a problem solver. It also trains you how to learn new things, including figuring out which questions you need to start asking to learn that new thing.
I was where you are, just looking to get out of the law. (I’m working my exit plan at the moment.) But along the way, I realized that taking that job I thought I’d be qualified for would pigeonhole me into something else I wasn’t really excited about, either. Plus, looking narrowly at JD preferred jobs was sort of like saying I am nothing more than my degree. Ultimately, I ended reframing the question to be about figuring out what I wanted to accomplish and worked backward from there to see what a good first step would be. It’s a more complicated process, but it’s more likely to land you somewhere you want to be rather than in just another job that might suck less than private practice, but that might also be lackluster.
FWIW, I still don’t know what I want to do. But I’ve figured out one thing that’s a little better than what I was doing and is likely a good step in something like the direction I think I want to be going.
If you’ve done 7 years of ID, an insurance carrier would probably love to have you. Have said this many times before on here…my wife practiced for about 7 years before going in house as an entry level claims person with an insurance co. Steadily moved up the ladder to AVP, VP, SVP positions and earns a very good living. Lots of opportunities out there. If you’re in NYC, for instance, I know Berkshire Hathaway‘s claims dept is looking.
Thank you! I did apply there earlier this week
What’s been your practice? What kinds of things do you want to do next?
I’ve done a variety of things but mostly insurance defense. I am hoping to get into compliance but haven’t been able to find a lot of those jobs.
