If it's something you want, have him put in the referral. I'm sure it's the same situation as the rest of PA: your education is meaningless and everything is in the job training.
The worst they can do is say no. :)
Assuming you are a staff, I'm sure you would come in as a staff 2, and just do a staff 3 year. We do that in our advisory service line with experienced hires.
The real question is do you think the transition is worth delaying your career progression by 1 year? Things like workload and the stress of learning a new subject matter are also something to consider. If you're junking from one frying pan to the other, might not be worth it.
I don't enjoy tax and it seems like a dead end job (limited exit opps, esp as you progress in PA). Therefore, it does seem like moving into valuations would be worth the 1 year setback (yes, I'm staff 1). I'm more concerned about whether I am qualified and would be able to do the work without the finance background many of them have. All my classmates that got FDD out of college were finance+accounting majors (at least 20 students per year) and I only have an accounting degree. I posted to see if anyone made a similar transition and could share about their experience
Go for it! Worst thing that happens is they say no, second worst thing is you start as a staff 1. Might seem like a risk however if you’re happy in the new role that’s all that matters.
