Yes, couldn’t get the higher base comp but hooked up with a cute girl in sales.
Options: additional vacation, paid sabbatical after X years tenure, FWA, employee assistance program benefits, relocation policy, etc. Anything is possible, just have to ask and not be afraid to negotiate or be told no!
Vacation is the one thing I wish I would have asked for. I would have asked that they immediately put me in the top bucket for accrual purposes, and I would have asked to have my vacation balance start at something above 0 hours.
I have been in industry for a long time. Trying to negotiate benefit/PTO is an uphill climb. Those are set company wide. You are asking for an exception and most hiring manager aren’t willing to even try to negotiate those things as exceptions are extremely rare granted under C-Suite. You want great benefits, apply at a company with great benefits. You want great PTO, find a company with unlimited PTO. Negotiate things you can win. Easiest negotiation to win is salary. Salary bands are huge. You can negotiate a signing bonus also if you can demonstrate what you are waking away from (I would get a annual bonus of xx, I have I unvented stock of Y).
Remember that in public, they made revenue from your billable hours. You go to industry and you are an administrative cost. You no longer directly drive revenue. If you want to be a rainmaker, stay in public/consulting.
