Anyone who has gotten an MBA thought it was worth it? Considering if I should do a part time MBA but not sure if the cost and time commitment is worth it.

As an African American female, I received an MBA from Duke University. That alone has opened many doors. People look at you differently.

I heard if you don’t go to a top mba program it’s not worth going at all. But congrats on getting your MBA at duke! What prep did you do to get accepted?

Yes, if you can leverage tuition reimbursement and not have to take out many loans. I did mine part time and while it was a lot of work, I’m glad I did it.

A little over 2 years! I did take summer classes a few times which helped

Two things:
1) do the senior leaders on your team have an MBA? That’s typically a good signal if you need one to advance
2) I think it also depends on your undergrad degree… meaning if you have a non-business degree, it will help you get credibility

I earned mine part-time (self funded; no employer reimbursement) from Wake Forest University. It’s a good talking point and source of pride, but I’m not sure if it really helped my career 🤷🏼‍♀️ If you decide to pursue with employer assistance, be sure to explore the tax implications—I’ve known people who haven’t done their due diligence and it can be impactful.

One additional point: I highly recommend a lockstep grad program for part time students. If I’d had the choice to lighten my course load, life would have inevitably gotten in the way. A lockstep program forces accountability with working professionals who have countless competing demands.

Following this thread. Does MBA really help with being promoted? And climb the corporate ladder faster?

Genuinely curious question: why do so many international students want to get MBAs in the US... it’s hard for them to get work here, with Trump it’s hard to even get and stay here, so what’s the appeal? There are plenty of other good universities internationally so why the expensive ones in the US?

Just scored 700 on my GMAT and I feel like a bag of crap. For reference, I put in 300+hrs into my studying, which is overkill but the course I signed up for took this long.

I wanted to use this to strengthen my app to BCG as an experienced hire and possibly for an MBA in the future.

For the MBA programs I'm looking at this score is fine but is this a score that can help my BCG app in a MCOL Canadian city?

Hi fishes,
I am currently working as a Data Science Analyst in Amex and would like to make a switch to Fraud detection/Credit risk modelling in future.(not in a hurry but would like to start preparing for the same)
How should I go about preparing for it? Is MBA the only course?
My current tech stack is Python, Pyspark, Hive, SQL, ML, DL(specifically NLP based). I have already done MS in CS from IIT Kgp.
I am confused mainly cause the tech stack requirement is similar to my role in the company.

Does an MBA (US) make sense for me? Male, Indian, Age 32, Married working in tech consulting with 10 YOE. Base is $165 with steady increases and bonus is typically 15%. I eventually do want to cross the $300K threshold but I know stopping work for 2 years and getting and MBA probably won’t get me a $300K job right away. Becoming a manger in my current company/path will probably get me there in terms of TC. Also considering EMBA from a good school (Wharton Global, Duke, Kellogg, Booth).
