Apologies if this is a silly question - New analyst here and trying to get a handle on my finances and retirement portfolio. I’m familiar with the rough sequence of saving being: 3-6 months HYSA, Company match 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, 401k max, personal brokerage (Pls correct me if i’m incorrect here). My question is: Are you expected to invest as much money as you can into each step before proceeding to the next, or do you allocate a portion of your paycheck to each of these steps simultaneously?

Typically you take advantage of free money (ie 401k match) first and then tax advantaged accounts and then personal brokerage

You are off to a great start. Try to focus on one or two at a time. I do the 401k and HSA throughout the year through my paycheck.

I'd say 1mo emergency fund first, then start 401k at a pace to get full match as you continue to build EF. Once EF is up to your goal then start hacking away at the next step (Roth IRA or HSA) and so on.

Got it, thanks a lot!

Hi everyone! I have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card right now. I want to upgrade to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.

I’ve heard it’s better to downgrade the Chase Preferred card to a Freedom Unlimited card and then apply for the Reserve card.

I have about 150k points on my Preferred card — if I downgrade to the freedom unlimited card will I get to keep my points? Will my points be worth the same for travel/pay yourself back? (I think it’s 25% more)

Any downsides/done this recently?

Managing Energy: When I wake up early I usually have a fair bit of energy to plow through work. This is without exercise. If I workout first I find that (perhaps obviously) I’ve used up some of that energy and less inclined to dive into work. I understand medium and long term there are energy benefits of regular exercise. Any tips on how to “rebound” from morning exercise leaning into work? I assume eating and perhaps caffeine? Am I making sense? Would love to hear others reactions/routines.
