A thing like how parachute pants in the 1980s was thing.
This is a beautiful analogy honestly.
i got one as a senior!
Client side in tech, yes they are common. Amazon, Meta, for sure. It’s usually because your stock doesn’t vest for a couple years so it’s to bump up your total comp. In agencies, no I’ve never seen a sign on bonus. I had one agency offer me $7k no strings with the intention of helping me with a move a few years back but I don’t think that counts?
Occasionally, agencies will give out holiday bonuses. Usually the amount you get is tied to your salary, rank, and/or tenure. When I was your level I didn’t know better and was hype on the $200-700 I got when I was making under $45 for 4 years 🙃 I got one that was a couple thousand one year as a mid which was cool.
Usually the performance based bonuses which are usually substantial if it’s a bigger company are client side. However, I just signed an offer for an agency that gives a profit sharing bonus that’s up to 18% of my salary AND I get RSUs. So it’s not totally unheard of, but rare.

Not for a junior, no. Only happens at a senior level, in my experience
I second this.
Pretty rare as a jr, but possible
I got one from AAE to AM then another to AE. Just depends I guess
I've heard of them. I know they exist. As for if I have ever gotten one - no. I'm not sure if I have bad luck or if it's just standard for most companies to skip on offering one.
I just got one!
VERY rare on the agency side I find unless it's senior

For creatives, anything is possible
They are, yes. I haven't seen too many places offering them. But I have recieved one before.
Just got one going from a junior to mid level
I just got one - ask and worst that will happen is they’ll say no.
