I’m an associate at OD. As with any large firm, your individual experience is going to wholly depend on the dynamics within your local office. I echo absolutely everything that’s been said above EXCEPT the statement that a client’s last minute emergency stays with the shareholder… this view/behavior is going to vary SH to SH, and it has not been my personal experience. In fact, the last 2 months have been rather nuts for me with weeks of very late nights and weekend work due to client emergencies that have all been passed to me to “figure it out” even when I’ve vocalized the near impossibility of the emergency deadlines on top of my normal workload. It’s a very “associates pay their dues” mentality. This is probably just my luck to be primarily working with a SH who punts emergencies to the associate, and clearly (based on the above comment) is not a universal behavior across all SHs in the firm. Just providing a full picture, and I definitely don’t think my experience on this one element should cause you to reconsider OD - it’s a great firm. Again, I echo ALL of the above, minus the 1 comment. Good luck!
I'm currently using Duane Morris in SF for an L&E matter. Partner and associate are great but no idea on wlb
