After they counter with a lower salary than you ask....use other factors to close the gap...bonuses tied to performance, stipend for car payment or transportation or cell phone bill, extra vacation, work from home flexibility, etc....try to make up at least 1/2 the difference in the value from these type of things

Director 1 is spot on. I’d just add a signing bonus. Always found that was the easiest to get because it’s a one time payment, but then I’d always use as part of “total compensation” to negotiate raises...
