A manager can manage people and/or “things” not uncommon. If you are annoyed by it there you will be annoyed by it everywhere. Some people are simply not wired to manage people. So, it is a good thing that they all do not.
Sometimes the names for the rungs on the ladder just don't mean a lot, or at least they're not literal. I suppose different titles could be used, but that would probably throw someone's org chart into disarray.
Titles vary wildly at pretty much all companies now. Generally if you say you are a manager, my first thought is always a people manager, but that isn’t always the case. I could see adding on to the manager title, but not sure how much of a difference it really makes at the end of the day.
Manager = salary pay not hourly. And we can make your 40 hour week stretch to 50-60 hours.
~ Signed IT project manager (I think there should be hourly pay and a different type of title)
