Are you personal friends or are you networking?
If I'm keeping touch with old coworkers in order to preserve a network and we haven't hung out socially since the end of that job....LinkedIn is ideal.
Hey how you been yadda yadda quick brief I don't want to talk all that much nor do I want that much back and forth. Quick 1 or 2 rounds of exchange is max for me. (Not too extroverted here ha)

If it’s someone you already know, not linked in. Email is always safe. Texting is fine if you’re friendly and already have a texting relationship. These are just my personal opinions though I’m sure different people feel differently. But don’t think you can go ever go wrong with email.
LinkedIn - least likely to go into spam, actually related to work.

Email for professional things
Text for personal things
LinkedIn is not really necessary if you already know them. Only for passive engagement
What are we communicating about? A job opportunity? Or just catching up?
If we’re just catching up or friends, I want to text.
For anything professional eg job opps, I prefer email
