The only people that say awards don’t matter are people that have never won awards or people that have won so many they don’t need to win more
Or people that have won some awards
We have no awards. Haven't ever applied for an award. We're now valued over 2 mil. I have two employees besides myself. Our business is growing too fast for me to keep up with.
I've always felt that awards are bullshit. I don't know shit but maybe I know more than this dumb industry. What I know is that authenticity is the currency of our age. Awards to me are navel-gazing, self-congratulatory, inconsequential garbage. If we did a good job our client knows. I don't need an award. Don't care for it. I'd rather work on the next one than spend a single second on accolades.
I'd argue that as people get busier and busier, awards actually matter more. People need a reason to spend time actually looking at the work in your book. An impressive slew of awards can be that reason.
It's seriously depressing when you get to a certain point in your career and you haven't won any though. There's so much luck involved, it's brutally unfair. Wish advertising was more of a meritocracy.

The problem with winning awards is then places hire you assuming you'll win them awards.
I think the more accurate answer is that there are multiple routes to success. Winning awards is one way (and often an effective way). But there are other ways to stand out.
I love the feeling of winning awards though.
Awards do matter to CCOs who get generous bonuses. The creatives might get a little bonus and maybe some offers but nothing else. Most of the work that gets awarded is just OK. Check the D&AD from 10-15 years ago and you see great campaigns. Right now you always see the same themes and ideas. Nothing ground breaking.
