Background: Been with two big 4 firms for total of 3 years ( audit senior for one year.) just got laid off 2 weeks ago. I’m also in the army reserve, and about to go on one year mission next month to support Covid. Does this one year gap of not working impact my job searching opportunities once I got back from the deployment?

One year gap for military deployment is different from one year gap of no work.

likesmarthelpful

Agreed as well. I think active military service is looked at very well

like

Nah dude you will not have problems getting a job when you get back. 1) you don't tell anyone you were laid off 2) your firm won't tell your employer you were laid off 3) the timing of your deployment is perfect so can just say you quit and left.

like

It’s not a gap you’re working for the govt for a year.

like

Edit: Just trying to go to industry and build my career there. Not trying to go back to big 4.

And lots of companies try as best as possible to hit certain military/veteran quotas...you hit the jackpot, with both b4 experience and military background

That one year of being in the army reserves is not a gap year in employment/not working.....

like

Unsure. But two big 4 firms in three years and being laid off hold be a no from me if you want back into big 4. Good luck OP!

You’ll land on your feet. There are a lot of folks getting laid off now. The service is a plus.

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid

Any idea how much a valuation analyst makes on average in the big 4 CREs?

Would it be hard to get a exp associate role in advisory at a B4 as someone with about 10 months in audit at EY, 7 months experience in corporate accounting at a F300 and CPA? Hated my time at the F300 but had thought the grass would be greener in industry. I’m starting a financial analyst position at a major hospital system in my area soon and want to stick with that for a couple years before making a transition but was curious if I just don’t have the right experience for a role in advisory.

I’ve spent 4 years in Big 4, with about half that time in FDD. I feel like Corp Dev is what I ultimately want, but am wondering if a stint in banking could be worth it. If I’m not interested in PE or other buyside alternatives, is the pit stop in IB worth it?
Mainly wonder if IB is a must have box to check, or if you can work your way up the ladder without.

Let’s talk about wrongful termination. The other day I was fired in the middle of the day without any warning. My colleagues called me because they were confused on why the Talent Manager dismissed me from the chat. I didn’t know what they were referring to. So I called my PM to ask what was happening, and she said that she just got off the phone with the TM and said they were terminating my contract on the spot due to me speaking up about micromanaging. No explanation just kicked out. Advice?

Hey team! So I was laid off from my SDR position about a week ago. A couple months back, I had an offer for a BDR position that I ended up turning down but I really liked and connected with the manager. Is it worth it to reach out? I applied to other positions in the same company. What about reaching out to previous co workers at a different company? Not sure how to navigate this… please help. Also I’m sorry if this is the wrong bowl to post in.

What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?
