It’s not called the CHICAGO Consulting Group for a reason!
Do Chicago...seriously. You’ll get more bang for your buck! BCG pay is standard across offices—Chicago is a cheaper, nicer city to live in :) Plus the office is in a lovely location right next to the river.
Culture-wise, I think it’s friendlier than BOS. Project-wise, it’s mostly healthcare (i.e healthcare insurance), IG and CPG. You won’t see a lot of tech, pharma, financial services, but that doesn’t mean these projects don’t exist— you just have to keep a keen eye out for them. The staffing team in Chicago is really nice :) If you’re extra nice to them, they’ll actively keep you in the loop on projects that have yet to be widely publicized for staffing.
@C1 any chance you can share on type of projects? I did hear some talk about true strategy being rare at BCG now; more downstream work and others etc.
There’s just more rules about your hot dog in Chicago but that’s it
If I had to venture a guess - you should probably just compare Chicago to Boston overall, probably not a significant difference from the firm perspective.
My 2 cents is go Chicago, much cheaper, same crappy winter, flights are easier since you’re nearer to the center of the US.
If it’s worth anything, I like Chicago much more than Boston
