Yes I'm sure it's all racism and not the fact accounting has always been white as fuck, especially back when those partners started 30 years ago. And women generally have to decide between the long hours and raising a family... we all know what the usual choice is for PA.

like

I'm saying 30 years ago most PA first years were white men and rose up the ranks. The starting class 30 years ago is the senior management today. So yes in the 30 years of public accounting experience group there isnt really some big pool of women or minorities being ignored.

Fwiw manager and up at my office is heavily mixed race wise.

like

^Then how do other firms have minorities and women in their senior management? Hmm something about your theory doesn't hold up.

like

Maybe those white men earned their spots and it's not a racist conspiracy? It's not a myth that the business world in the 1980s was much whiter and maler either...

like

More likely, BDO just has not made a true effort for diversity and has not had a real program to ensure some diversity in its upper ranks.

like

Diversity just for the sake of diversity doesn't help anyone either. PA at high levels is a sales job and if you bring in business you get promoted. That's the way it is.

like

I'm never really jealous of those in upper management in PA. Thinking about what you'd have to put up with and put yourself through to get to that level makes me think any rational person would get their experience and leave (from a big firm with ridiculous hours perspective)

like

Depends on the office and service line. Tons of minority and women partners in my area (not assurance)

like

Again you need to look at more than just senior leaderdhip and by your stance you'd want a lesser qualified minority to replace white men just because. The most deserving person should get the job.

like

If so minority candidate is more qualified they should get the job. I never said they weren't more qualified. You're literally making shit up. And bdo has literally won diversity awards after 20 seconds of Google
... https://issuu.com/diversityjournal/docs/2012novdec

like

They're saying hiring someone because they're a minority is the same principle as hiring someone because they're white. It's basing it on race instead of merit alone.

like

You can keep making shit up and putting words in my mouth if you want but you'll keep being wrong here.

like

As long as a firm gives the same opportunities to all employees it should all be merit based regardless of skin color.

like

There are very few non white male 55-60 year olds in PA, full stop.

like

I can guarantee I've had a harder life than you so no you cannot use stupid arguments like that. Quit working for bdo then and stop whining.

like

I linked you to bdo winning diversity awards too..

I spent 8 years there (Muslim American). When I resigned RMP was devastated and told me I was on partner track...could be that I'm in a diverse big city but I can tell you my office isnt all white dudes at the top.

Firms like PwC and EY have spent millions on diversity programs, which include taking a deep look at how the firm is structured, asking the difficult questions on why minorities and women aren't as represented in prominent positions and committing to enforcing diversity at all levels of their organization. What many people miss is that minorities and women may have dealt with structural issues that did not allow them as much upward mobility in the firms as white men. The big firms have addressed these issues. Clearly the smaller ones have not taken the same approach.

like

That's why the "all the qualified people are white" argument that RSM1 is promoting falls short. It conveniently declines to address the issues of systematic racism.

like

That's the systemic prejudice, keeping women and people of color out of the education system. It's much better for women now, not so much for POC. It's starts from the moment they're born, and you're lying to yourself if you think women and POC aren't told different things about their abilities and what jobs they can do.

@BDO4 you will outwork me any day? That's hilarious. Take your staff salary and shove it up your ass.

Hello all,

Would like to know specifically about Queer inclusion at SocGen
Societe Generale. What is the attitude of mangers and HRs towards treating LGBTQ identifying candidates? Is company really inclusive or it’s just a lip service? Considering an offer with the company but being an out and proud Queer woman, super anxious and concerned.

I am curious how other inclusion teachers are being utilized when the school is doing remote learning. I find that I am sitting in the zoom class and have very little opportunity to contribute. I am having discussions with my teachers on ways that I can better support them and the students when remote.

Date had to end pretty early bc she's in the med field and needs to wake up around 5am. I'm new to dating people my own gender and I want to make moves but I'm nervous/hesitant since I'm new to this. There was light touching, leaning in, eye contact, but I want to do more. Anything I should do on the 2nd date? How to initiate?

Why are town Hall meetings so impersonal? They are all about awards / the number of people hired. I know FCB health is large, but we never hear from people who aren’t Executives. Last town hall, when discussing inclusion efforts, there were no people of color represented and one of the 4 pillars of diversity was centered around our “reputation as an organization” (that really rubbed me the wrong way). At my last agency those conversations were always led by people of color from every level.

Lots of right wing hysteria about liberals trying to engineer equality of outcome to correct sexual/racial inequities (in higher ed, for example). I think we all want socioeconomic, gender and racial barriers to opportunities to be addressed, but no significant number of people really believe in equality of outcome right? This is just a straw man argument.

Do NOT claim you are "colorblind" in the workplace. 1. DE&I knowledge is now a core leadership competency. Colorblind claims will earn you the reputation of being DEI-ignorant at best & racist at worst. 2. Colorblindness within the context of workplace diversity is an obvious lie. You do NOT want to be painted as an intellectually dishonest leader. 3. Colorblind claims signal that you lack the leadership skills & vocabulary to have key conversations. Ask questions here, in this safe space.

Someone on LinkedIn expressed disappointment about the lack of diversity from the big law firms in TX that were posting pics of their summer associates. A managing partner commented that he thought the post might be about a pic he posted (12/14 SAs were white). He tried to defend this by saying that they had LGBT and socioeconomic diversity. The fact that he recognized that his pic might be part of the problem says it all. Law firms need to do better. Sorry, I just wanted to rant.
