This is not just a salary comparison decision. Do you know what being an IB analyst entails in terms of sacrifice? Have you spoken with people working (or worked) in IB? Is the additional pay worth it?
This is a personal decision. I also had a choice but my personal answer was No.
Not to be rude but you don't even have an offer yet... that's a decision for when you have offer in hand
I did IB for 2 years prior to consulting, comp is entirely dependent on city and bank tier, but certainly sounds reasonable. Definitely can confirm the longer hours and increased expectation of face time. Culture is also more cutthroat and aggressive. Loved the actual work, but got frustrated by the culture. Do your due diligence and make sure you like the people you'll be working for/with.
But if you do have the offer, I'd say go for it.
^ makes a fair point. Another buddy of mine just started with STRH, his past month has been 830 AM - 11 PM at the office. 1130PM - 2 AM work at home. Every day M-F. Saturday, regularly has calls and puts in at least 2-4 hours. Sunday will be an 8 hour day. On an hourly basis, you will make nothing. 80 hour work weeks will be your minimum. But, the bonus check will make you feel nice, and after 2 years, you'll be able to get any job in the world. But for those 2 years, you will become a very resentful, frustrated, and maybe even a little depressed, person.
Agree tks
90 base and 90 bonus ? I'm hard pressed to believe that. My buddy is going to a MM PE firm and that's what he's getting as a 1st year Associate. But nonetheless , fuck yeah take that shit. Grind for 2 years and then dip out to any job you want making 200k+
If you get it, then go for it
If money is priority then I don't see a point in having this conversation
Go for it
Find out the details on that bonus too. How likely is it? What are the factors? Easy to promise a discretionary bonus.
Am I reading this wrong or is your current salary 45k?
Mine is currently 75k (Associate 1). The salary offer is confirmed with the recruiter. It's a new boutique ib in Stamford with a very lean team in TMT space.
