Why do you think your firm would be upset about him writing recommendations? Highly unlikely.
If he was laid off for performance reasons then you should be fine. If he was fired for cause then there is a chance they would read his stuff.
But overall, bschool recs aren’t anything to be worried about. People go to business school all the time. In fact, our firms promote it
I don't think he can get fired for this. In fact, I'm pretty sure he can't get fired for this.
I wouldn’t worry about it. Outside of your control and applying to B school is not something anyone should look at negatively.
Pretty sure that's what he told you but in reality he got fired for something else
If small firm, keep the business school refs to yourself.
Reach out to the b-schools and request to change the email address of one of your references and provide his personal email address. You do not have to say why and I️ doubt why but if they ask just say your boss is changing jobs. It is no big deal and people change jobs all the time.
OP, hope the decision from Sloan was a favorable one. I️ don’t think asking to change the email addresses of one of your reference provides would constitute ‘rocking the boat’. If the references were already provided to the schools, you can either reach out and let them know that one of your references can be reached at a new email address or sit still and hope they will let you know if they need to follow up and the email bounces. Good luck!
My* recs for b-school
Why was he fired?
why was he fired?
Yea dude
Yeah it’s just that I’m not at a big4. We’re a very small company, and my boss’ boss asked me about this a few weeks ago coz he heard some rumor about me leaving and I tried my best to not confirm or deny.
Also, for all the people asking, he’s not getting fired for writing the recs. They say it’s performance related, but really it’s probably for cause. So idk which way they will handle it.
🔥
Also if they really do get upset to hear you're considering leaving, just tell them you plan to return to your current firm with all this new knowledge and contacts, so it's a good thing for them. And then ask them to fund it. (Plan to return doesn't actually have to be true of course.)
K2 yeah that’s more or less the plan I’ve come up with so far, if I am asked to explain myself. Now to come up with a plan to explain to the schools why my recommender will no longer be available at the email address provided 😞
P4: should I do this right away? Waiting on the decision from Sloan tomorrow and not sure if want to rock the boat just a day before. Am I being paranoid?
Agree with SC1, I'm in process of writing one right now and I'm not worried at all about needing to ask anyone if I can/should or anyone looking at it as anything other then a positive experience for the employee applying.
