What a narc
Chief
That happened with me, I was interviewing for a very cool agency and mid interview the CD said he was really tight with my CCO. Right at the moment I realized I was fucked.
I didn’t have the best relationship with my CCO. not the worst but not the best. And he is notoriously bitter towards anyone leaves and likes to burn people.
So, I was fired. And didn’t get the job at the other shop.
Chief
Cd7 now I’m curious too.

Tell HR or the recruiter at the agency you were talking with. Explain that one of their employees told your current job you were interviewing and it feels like a massive breach in trust.
I second this. That ass deserves to be known by their HR department.
Chief
Yeah that person is a massive asshole

Wow. Please DM me the narc’s name. I want to make sure I never hire them.
I feel you, but wouldn’t that also be kind of a narc move?

@ECD sad but true... Bollocks to snitching!
DUDE. Worst fear unlocked. But also, your CCO knows you exist. Yay!🎉
It’s a small agency :/
If your CCO is any kind of leader, they should be looking at why you want to leave in the first place. Obviously they’re not creating an environment that holds your interest, fully supports or inspires you. (It’s very hard to do that right now, to be fair, and there’s so much movement with people thinking the grass is greener when it probably won’t be, but I digress). Your growth in your current role should be the basis of a conversation with them, you don’t need to apologize or feel nervous that they know you’re exploring your options. And those two CCOs suck for talking about you interviewing. This is business. You have every right to talk to anyone you want to, even narc friends of your current boss. Don’t go and work for that person, by the way. And tell the recruiter that they outed you. It’s fucked up.

I appreciate you thinking like that. You are mostly right and well intentioned. But sometimes even if the place is good, challenging, welcoming leadership has to accept the fact that sometimes people just leave. They want to change scenario, a better comute, a different pace. It’s not always your fault either.
Has someone thrown a sack over your head and bundled you into a van yet?
In many companies it's against policy to contact someone about a potential candidate without their consent for this very reason.
AD2 I don't think that's exactly correct. It's still Groupe policy to obtain explicit permission for all references. Just because someone name dropped when responding to a question doesn't mean they granted permission for you to contact them.

In this situation, two wrongs definitely make a right. Contact HR about this. That is so petty. Who cares that much.... damn.

Have you told the talent team at the other agwnxu that this happened.
Trust me, you don’t want to work for that company. It has no respect for people. Move on.
Yeah they did you a favor.
I’ve always been stoked when someone on my team leaves and takes another job for more money and I better situation for them. Sad to see them go but I don’t cut the checks. Support your colleagues in the industry, not just in-house.
Lame
Damn!
This happened to me. I was interviewing to relocate to another city. I was not in a rush, but it was an eventual plan for the right opportunity. I interviewed for an in-house position and the CMO, who didn’t have any role or input in the hiring decision but was given a heads up I was interviewing, knew my CD and reached out to him. Because if this, I lost a position on a just-won account I was excited for (and may have postponed my move to work on). I was put in a position where I had to take the job because my current employment was now at risk due to her careless action. I was also the sole earner for a family of 3 at the time and incredibly broke. Took 3 years to break out of debt from that move. I hate her to this day. I hate to hate but she f**cked with my life. And she never acknowledged it or apologized to me, yet I knew she was aware because she mentioned it to my boss.
I was trying to hire a team from another agency in a smallish town and they were worried about being seen talking to me (the ECD of another shop) so we met on the edge of town at a riverboat casino nobody ever goes to, wearing disguises (wigs etc) it was actually pretty cool and added some fun ice breaking to the meeting. We hired them!
I think it could be a good thing! Your current company isn’t going to want to lose you. Maybe they’ll give you a raise or promotion.
I worked at a place that once almost hired a notoriously huge asshole. The guy was successful, but only because he used and burned many people to get to the top. Once a few people found out he was in a few rounds of interviews, they stepped up and pleaded with management not to hired the guy. And to emphasize just how bad this person was: one guy cried explaining to HR how badly he was emotionally abused by this ECD. The pulled the offer.
I’m sure your situation is different, but in a few cases... I think it’s important to “narc”.
Sure, when its to an interviewer or someone within the company of the new role. There’s absolutely no reason to go to someone at an interviewee’s current company.
