Calling all L&D specialists! I want to be you when I grow up 😄 I am wondering what education/training is recommended when applying for positions? I have a BS and about a year of real world HR experience. I am debating going for MS but wondering if it’s possible to start off somewhere and grow into a L&D position from there. TIA!

I have a Bachelor's in Education and a Master's in Instructional Design and eLearning Technology, but it’s completely doable to transition from another field to L&D. Try to learn the basics and to understand ADDIE and SAM methodologies.

like

Depending on your knowledge and previous experience, you won't need to start over when transitioning. Many people move into Instructional Design (ID) work without even realizing it. If you possess a Master's degree and have 6 years of experience, you can readily apply for senior or manager positions. However, in my case, I had to start from scratch because despite having a Master's degree, I lacked 1 year of relevant work experience in the ID field.

I moved from Talent Acquisition to L&D through networking and volunteering for cross functional projects. I had to take on extra workload while also maintaining above average performance in my current role at the time. It was so worth it making the leap.

like

How long would you say you were doing extra workload on top of the above average work performance prior to the switch?

Hello fishes.
I'm a fresher and I recently joined one of the big4 as a senior analyst.
I am given sap as my competency, but honestly I'm not finding it interesting. I was hoping to shift to data analytics(python, sql, etl, powerbi, advanced excel... Working with these techs).
I have knowledge in python and sql. I also have some development skills, reactjs and stuff(not relevant to data analytics).
Should I increase my skill set before starting to apply to other firms?

I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

Need some benchmarks: What would average/good survey results be for a leadership skills class (instructor-led)? We ask for the participant’s experience (did you like it, would you recommend, etc.), and also send an impact survey out 2 months later to their manager (have you seen positive behavior changes since training). Our experience survey is at 92% positive and impact to behaviors is at 83% positive. Anything I can compare to in order to share the story with leadership?

I applied for a Director Learning and Development (L&D) role at McKinsey about a month ago via a referral. About a week ago, my McKinsey employee (who referred me) received an automated email saying that I had moved to the pre-screening process of the recruitment process and that I'll hear from the recruiter shortly.

It's more than a week now and I haven't heard back. Can anyone shed light on the process -- what to expect, timelines, what is the interview process like, etc.

Thanks!

Hi all! I have an opportunity to work for a tech company as a l&d specialist. They are quoting 70-75k. But I have 8 years experience. Does that seem like a fair number? Sounds low to me but I wanted to check.

I have an LL&D Manager interview coming up - any tips?!

I am currently an HR professinal of 3 years with past background as a teacher/advisor in higher ed. Any openings or hiring at your company? I am not super concerned about the title as long as there is room for growth and I can pay for my 3 kids' daycare tuitions. ;)
