I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!
Hi fishes,
I’m a fresher and have recently completed my internship as an Operations manager at Amazon. I am currently looking for FT opportunities. I came across and opening at Maersk for the role of Business Analyst. Could anyone refer me for the role or maybe point me to a suitable opportunity?
thanks!

On what grounds would this be illegal, in the farthest reaches of the imagination?
At my last job (an IPG company) I had to fill out an application but it was after I already got the offer. They said it was required for my file. First time this has happened to me. Plenty of jobs I’ve gotten sans application. Definitely not illegal.
I'm going to make a few assumptions here:
- You've been looking for a job/wanting to switch for a while and are frustrated
- You're early in your career (which you've confirmed in a comment above) and haven't really experienced or run the gauntlet of corporate life
Both these things combined have led to this anger and meltdown, which is totally understandable. The economy sucks right now. That said:
- You're not "owed" anything till you sign a contract
- Companies schedule interviews on a rolling basis as they find worthy candidates and it is quite common to hear they've chosen someone else even before or after your first interview. It's par for the course.
- The fact that you think this is a disappointment, makes me think that maybe you do need to recognise that some things shouldn't be taken personally. And that also makes me think that your comment about having had a lot of disappointments in your short career might not actually all be disappointments but situations you might have misgauged and taken personally - some, not all.
Last, I hope to dear god you didn't bring this energy in your response to the agency/recruiter. Because if they reached out to you, it message they liked your profile and might reach out for future vacancies. But if your response was anything in the same vein as this post, that bridge is burned. Not trying to detract from your experience at all, but just my two cents. Which could be way off base, in which case feel free to tell me so. But hopefully this provides some perspective.
Wow W1 for a second I thought you might provide some insight and encouragement but mmmm nah. Being disappointed by this situation is normal and human. I find it super weird that OP is getting robotic responses that they “shouldn’t feel that way”. But what you do with those feelings is key. OP - recognize those emotions for being there, give yourself a time limit to feel them, and then thank those emotions for their service and then press on to the next opportunity.
It seems like you are getting two scenarios confused. The one you are in suggests you were not a shoo-in for the role. It was kind of them (albeit annoying) to cancel before wasting your time since they knew they were going to align on a different candidate.
Separately based on your comments above, you do fill out applications if you are already being offered a job. That is normal but the inverse doesn’t apply (just because you filled out an application, you aren’t entitled to anything).
Finally, being annoyed about this is valid. But it’s also common in this industry and really, on the lower end of offensive things to happen to you (imagine doing 6-10 hours of interviews and NOT getting the job for the same reason.) Getting this worked up over it is not worth it and I would reconsider the industry if you think you can’t reframe your feelings here.
VP Growth says “grow up” 😂
In this economy?!

Even if it is illegal, I’m sure it wouldn’t be worthwhile to sue them. I’m just kind of surprised this happened.
Yes, yes it’s legal…. 😂

Look, I’ve had a lot of disappointments in my short career. This is just a new one for me.
BSD 1 you must be a real hoot to work with. God I hope you don’t manage people.

So basically I’m just stupid for thinking I would get to interview for a job after they reached out wanting to interview me.
It doesn’t, that makes you human- I wasn’t suggesting or referring to this in the slightest.
Wanting and seeking out and working toward professional and personal fulfillment and a sense of security and stability in life is all anyone is really after. But no one is obliged to play a role in your story. What makes you think that there is something written in law that says anyone owes or is owed anyone else’s attention and consideration? They could literally speak two words to you, decide they don’t like you because you are wearing a purple dress and they despise purple, get up, and walk away.
There's nothing illegal about hiring someone before all applicants have been interviewed.
Be an adult about things, and it might work out just on a different timeline. I landed my job by interviewing for a role on "Team X". They decided to fill that role via an internal promotion. However, when they were looking for someone in a similar role on "Team Y", I had made an impression and was fresh on their minds, so I eventually landed a role, only it happened roughly a month later than I'd hoped for. Since then, both those clients have moved on from the company, but I've been promoted and landed on other teams that I'm largely satisfied with.
Maybe the portfolio quality or some particular experience made meeting you a moot point.
You really sound bitter and that’s not going to get you anywhere. Take it on the chin, it sucks for you and every other person who didn’t get the job. Onto the next!
It happens all the time, people get jobs through networking. Most of the time they still interview people to avoid the bad optics but it still happens.
They were probably covering their asses in case the candidate turned down the offer. You’re lucky you got a response and an explanation, or even a formal cancellation for that matter. I can’t imagine your reaction had the recruiter kept the meeting and failed to show up.
Let it go. Nitpicking they "why" will only steal your joy and peace of mind. Look at it this way - maybe you dodged a bullet.
I applied on their website? A lot of time job posting is just to give the illusion of process. They’ll go with someone they know. They can hire whoever they want.
Is this a bit? This can’t be for real.
It sounds like the company found a candidate they really like. That doesn't mean they wouldn't like you, too. Maybe things won't work out with the other candidate, so be sure to let the hiring manager know that you're very interested in the company and would like to stay in touch.
Yes it is legal.
The only problem is that they didn’t give you the time of day, which sucks, but when a company finds someone they like, they need to go for it, regardless. Just because it’s a disappointment to you doesn’t make it illegal.
Yes
Completely legal. No ethics or obligations.
It's a thousand percent legal
My only takeaway here is “I deserved that job because I wanted it and I didn’t get it and now I need to speak to a manager”
Unfair but totally legal. I was a finalist for an agency leadership position. Me and one other person. There was a hiring committee involved. Email from head of recruitment. CEO decided to hire someone he worked with years ago. Totally circumventing the hiring committee. Wasting all the time of those involved on the hiring and candidate side. There’s no crying in baseball. Sh*t happens. And it could happen to you on the good side just as easily. Nurture your network.
